  1. Yep, pretty much.

Do you ever notice how much conservatives equate freedom of speech with freedom to voice unpopular opinions? Every time a conservative says something that is unpopular with a lot of people they accuse people of infringing on their speech.

It is more like equating freedom of speech with shutting down other people’s opportunities at it. And then coming outside to high five each other that no one else got a chance to speak to their electeds. Thuggish and adolescent.

  3. Have you read about this guy? He’s an uninsured conservative activist against health care reform.

  4. Progressive Mom says:

UI — Talking Points Memo says the guy has set up a web site to take donations for his health care .. it’s not irony; it’s just sad.

Andrew Sullivan got a letter from a reader that is worth reading every word of.

Alternet has an article on “Is American becoming fascist”. We are now in the third stage! A study done by Salem University details how America has gone fascist since the 1960’s. The southern mentality of rascism, sexism, repression, and screaming down any debate is exactly what happened in Germany and Russia. The party has been taken over by lunatic right wing fascists. The more moderate republicans are doing nothing to stop it but are wrapping themselves around these ideas. We need a viable two party system in this country to have checks and balances. Unfortunately the reBiblicans have no ideas or solutions so they have turned to fear and terror cuz its all they got.

That’s the part that scares me. What we’re seeing here are classic Brownshirt tactics. The fear, violence (that has only begun), and intimidation is what they did before the 1932 elections. I’ve a bad feeling this won’t end well. But that’s what happens when you demonize and de-humanize your opponents by calling them Nazis, fascists, and old people killers.

PS — I realize this post could be seen as doing what I just condemned. It’s not. I’m not saying the townhallers ARE Brownshirt Nazi fascists, only that they are using similar methods. I’m only saying the historical endpoint when these tactics are used is not good.
