Thursday Open Thread

It’s open thread time – let’s throw the floor open. Put your comments, links and topics on your mind right here.

Let me do a follow-up to yesterday’s Open Thread discussion. The judge issued a judgment in the birther case from yesterday, and was quite critical of Ms. Taitz. He called her case frivolous and threatened sanctions. Anyone with an IQ higher than a rock or who isn’t suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome is not at all surprised by that. Ms. Taitz proved her entertainment value by giving an unhinged statement to Talking Points Memo.

In an interview with TPM just now, Birther evangelist Orly Taitz fired back at Clay Land, the U.S. district court judge who tore apart Birtherism and threatened Taitz with sanctions in an order today, saying that “somebody should consider trying [the judge] for treason and aiding and abetting this massive fraud known as Barack Hussein Obama.”

“This is so outrageous what this judge did — it goes in the face of law and order,” said Taitz, reached at her office in Mission Viego, CA. “Not every judge is as corrupt as Judge Land. Some judges believe in the Constitution. And some judges believe in the rule of law.”

And if Rhodes is open to continuing the fight, would Taitz go along?

“Oh absolutely, absolutely,” she said. “Listen, Nelson Mandela stayed in prison for years in order to get to the truth and justice.”

And Taitz brushed off the possibility of sanctions. “I’m not afraid of sanctions. Because I know this is not frivolous. I know this is extremely important — the most important issue in this country today.”

“Judge Land is a typical puppet of the regime — just like in the Soviet Union,” she said.

Nelson Mandela. Please. This freak’s (Taitz) idea of a prisoner of political oppression is being in the political minority. Totally and utterly clueless.

Orly Taitz, the next Nelson Mandela. Seriously, can’t make this stuff up. I also loved the judge’s comments.

“Plaintiff’s complaint is not plausible on its face. To the extent that it alleges any “facts,” the Complaint does not connect those facts to any actual violation of Plaintiff’s individual constitutional rights. Unlike in Alice in Wonderland, simply saying something is so does not make it so.”

Hmmm… maybe it should be, Orly Taits – Mad Hatter

Also, the simply saying something is so does not make it so spells trouble for Republicans.

  3. Scott P says:

“Simply saying something is so does not make it so.” Somewhere in Texas, a middle-aged ex-President reads the line in the paper and exclaims, “It doesn’t?!? Damn it, Turdblossom. Then why did I base my administration on an idea I didn’t understand?”

  4. Here’s a link to the whole decision (14-page PDF). It’s worth a read. It’s pretty amusing and the judge has some harsh words for the plaintiff Connie Rhodes. The judge (a Bush appointee) is saying that Rhodes just doesn’t want to go to Iraq, she has obeyed orders from this commander-in-chief before and is fine with doing so as long as she’s stateside.

You of all people should know this Pandora.

  6. I read about the teabaggers protesting inadequate funding to the socialist D.C. metro system. It’s amazing how little self-awareness these people have.

  7. cassandra_m says:

Oh and there’s a new twist to the teabagger’s protest of the socialist DC Metro:

But wait, it gets better, Back in July HR3288, a Transportation and HUD appropriations bill, came up for a vote. It included $150 million for emergency maintenance funding for the DC Metro.

    Brady voted against it.

The only appropriate response to people like this is open, mocking laughter.

    I’m laughing.

    h/t to John Cole one…

AP NewsBreak: Nuke agency says Iran can make bomb

(AP) – 18 minutes ago VIENNA — Experts at the world’s top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system able to carry an atomic warhead, according to a secret report seen by The Associated Press.

  9. I think Limbaugh may be jealous of all the attention Beck’s been getting lately. Limbaugh is now wishing for the return of segregated busing.

I get it! Because killing people is funny. Good one! And it has ACORN in it, too. Most people probably won’t get the subtle innuendo, the dummies. How about next time, just a single panel with someone saying, “ACORN kills people!” Now THAT would be funny.

Even by the standards, or lack there of,of modern journalism Orly Taitz was a real zinger. Lawyer, dentist, real estate agent. Better watch herself tho’, judges are ill disposed to being labeled “puppets of the regime”. I think we’ve extracted all the joy from this one. Yes, all good things must end.

  12. RICO says:

ok Scott, I found a one panel image for you, but it isn’t very funny…

Stay classy, my friend. Stay classy.

I was hoping for something at least Ziggy or Family Circus funny. I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes so high. As we’ve said before, the Right doesn’t do (intentional) humor all that well. I guess fear, anger, paranoia, and bitterness don’t mix well with humor. At least they still have country music.

  14. RICO says:

sorry about that Scott, I just couldn’t find a way to make sexual slavery and child prostitution funny even if Acorn was advising on how to make it profitable.

    Castle picks banks over students:

If this Biden-Castle race takes shape, you’ll have many first- and second-time voters who have no memory of Castle as governor, but whose education costs will drop because of a bill that Castle opposed.

  16. Time Mag had an interesting write up on Mr. Beck. I may do a post on it so I won’t say much more, but it is worth reading despite its biased tone.

  17. Paul says:

The birthers, the tea baggers, the screamers, and the deathers continued extreme minority presence will become tiresome to mainstream America, if it has not already done so. To all the birthers in La, La Land, it is on you to prove to all of us that your assertion is true, if there are people who were there and support your position then show us the video (everyone has a price), either put up or frankly shut-up. I heard Orly Taitz, is selling a tape (I think it’s called “Money, Lies and Video tape”). She is from Orange County, CA, now I know what the mean when they say “behind the Orange Curtain”, when they talk about Orange County, the captial of Conspiracy Theories. You know Obama has a passport, he travel abroad before he was a Senator, but I guess they were in on it. In my opinion the Republican Party has been taken over the most extreme religious right (people who love to push their beliefs on others while trying to take away the rights of those they just hate) and that’s who they need to extract from their party if they real want to win. Good Luck, because as they said in WACO, “We Ain’t Coming Out”. I heard that she now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).
