Eagles Open Thread

Filed in National by on September 20, 2009

Post your predictions, thoughts, and reactions. Will Kevin Kolb make Jason Scott miss “No heart chump” McNabb? Will we see Jeff Garcia on the field? Will the brutal Eagles defence be able to contain Drew Brees, the best QB in football last year who threw 6 touchdowns last week?

  1. Kolb will throw an INT. Jason will blame it on McNabb.

  2. xstryker says:

7-0 Saints. That didn’t take long.

  3. xstryker says:

And Kolb connects to DeSean Jackson to tie it up! This game may have some life after all.

  4. xstryker says:

A good tackle by Sheldon Brown stalls the Saints, who settle for a field goal. 10-7 Saints.

  5. xstryker says:

    Ugh, nice drop there DeSean.

  6. xstryker says:

Meanwhile in Tennessee, it was one heck of a 1st quarter for running back Chris Johnson – 2 TDs, 139 combined rushing/receiving yards. He’s on pace to break records, but there’s no way he’ll sustain that level of production all game long.

  7. xstryker says:

Eagles stall at the goal line and kick instead to tie it up at 10. Kolb so far is outperforming expectations.

  8. But my Texans have come back and are tied with Tennessee.

  9. xstryker says:

Some terrible special teams work by the Eagles leads to a stalled drive by their own goal line, quickly followed by 45 second touchdown drive from the Saints – Brees connects to Marques Colston again.

  10. xstryker says:

Eagles kick a field goal at the end of the half. 17-13 Saints.

Another crappy special teams performance from the Eagles ends in a fumble, soon followed by Drew Brees 3rd touchdown of the day. 24-13 Saints.

  11. xstryker says:

Kolb throws an interception, and Saints RB Mike Bell end up with the Saint’s first rushing touchdown of the day. 31-13, we are now in blowout territory.

  12. xstryker says:

Meanwhile in Tennessee, Chris Johnson is up to 3 TDs, 270 total yards (179 rushing + 2 TDs, 91 receiving + 1 TD).

  13. xstryker says:

    Saints field goal, 34-13.

Ellis Hobbs takes off on the kickoff for 63 yards. The Eagles make it to the goal line, and after some stalling, Kolb connects to Avant for a TD. 34-20 Saints as the 3rd quarter draws to a close.

  14. John Young says:

    um, Eagles appear to suck.

Interrupting to say it is awesome that x is live-blogging football today!

  16. And interestingly enough, my Texans didn’t!

  17. By the way, I’m sorry the Eagles lost. Not only do I hate New Orleans, but I also am a big Kolb fan from his days here at University of Houston.

  18. mike w. says:

I thought Kolb played pretty well. The defense lost this game.

  19. Delaware Dem says:

It was a tale of two halves for Kolb and the special teams. He and they were great in the first, mindblowingly horrible and Republican in the second half.

  20. xstryker says:

By the second half, Kolb had to make risky plays just to stay in the game. The final interception was a Hail Mary. Overall, Kolb was adequate. He played well, nothing special, until the massive Saints lead forced him to take risks he couldn’t handle. And as bad as the defense was, the special teams deserve the worst scorn of all. Two plays where they should have taken a touch back ended badly – one in a stupid penalty that sent them back to the 3 yard line, and the other in a turnover fumble.

  21. Puzzler says:

    A.J. Feeley was usually adequate.

The whole team lost today. On D, the front seven were mostly pushed around and receivers were wide open all day. Brees was seldom pressured. The Birds special teams performance constitutes an emergency. But Kolb, like he has before, added nothing and subtracted some when the chips were down. He COULD be a late bloomer.

Also, Brad Lidge COULD get it together. You never know.

  22. Perry says:

    I enjoyed the Giants-Cowboys game!

Eli Manning continues to prove himself to be a premier QB, in the same league as Drew Brees, his brother, and Tom Brady. Tony Romo is slipping.

The wounded Giants defense stepped up nicely.

I did enjoy the Eagles in the first half. Their wildcat formations and executions will have future opponents guessing. Drew Brees and the Saints are probably the best in the NFL. The Eagles will be competitive this year.
