House Health Care Reform Voting Begins At 9:30 – UPDATE – Bill Passes 220-215

Filed in National by on November 7, 2009

If you’ve been following the news today, you probably know that the House health care reform bill, H.R. 3962 is coming to a vote tonight, probably around 9:30 PM.

If you’ve been following (watch at C-SPAN) you probably know that there’s been hours worth of braindead commercial-worthy moments. One of the worst was the group of Republican men who kept interrupting the House Democratic Women’s Caucus when they tried to speak about how health care reform will affect women.

And Republicans wonder why there’s a gender gap in voting. In another cringeworthy moment Rep. Steve King tells us that everyone has health care, they simply have to go to the Emergency Room.

Source on Twitter are saying that Pelosi has more than the 218 votes needed to pass the bill (link when it’s available).

Despite the many flaws of the bill, this is definitely a historic moment. This is the closest we’ve ever come to health care reform, which has been a priority for the Democratic party for more than 50 years. I’m hopeful for the changes, despite the flaws. I think it’s important to get a bill that can be built upon and improved.

I’m ready to duct tape Boehner. As Bugs Bunny said, “What a maroon.”

  2. nemski says:

I liked the C-SPAN announcer who said, Representative Cancer – Cantor.

  3. nemski says:

LOL Mike Castle’s remarks aren’t on C-SPAN yet.

  4. The Stup(id)ak amendment passes – 53 Democrats voted yes, 1 Republican voted no.

  5. jason330 says:

object, object, object… Sheesus, what a d-bag. As for Castle who doubts that he will say, “While I agree that health care reform is important, I have concerns about this bill.”

    It is a given.

  6. nemski says:

    Mike Castle hates women.

  7. 64 Democrats voted yes.

  8. jason330 says:

Well Dems better get motivated or that POS could be our next Senator.

Can’t catch me that way, dude.

  10. I hope the Stupak amendment will be removed in committee, but I’m not hopeful.

The GOP joke health care bill failed.

  11. Here’s the list of the votes on the Stupak amendment.

  12. nemski says:

    Yes! House Bill passes

  13. Health care reform passes the House by 2 votes.

I’m hearing one Republican voted “yes.” That means its bipartisan! BTW, 39 Democrats voted “no,” so thanks teabaggers for giving us that extra Democratic Congressman.

I’m seeing that it was Cao (R-LA), who won corrupt Democrat William Jefferson’s seat, that voted yes. He needed to vote yes to even have a chance to win in his heavily Democratic district.

  14. nemski says:

Suck on that tea bag, winguts!

  15. anon says:

Blue Dogs waited to see if it would pass so they could vote No without being the one to kill it. Is there anything less principled than a Blue Dog?

  16. Final roll call on the health care reform vote.

    Castle voted no.

At least two progressive, single payer, pro-choice advocates voted no: Massa (NY) and Kucinich.

  17. Rebecca says:

Nancy Pelosi I love ya! And good job by Hoyer managing all those “capture and release” votes so the Blue Dogs can go back to their conservative districts and get relected next year.

Yeah to DL, Progressive Dems, the Delaware Democratic Party, Democracy for America, our brothers and sisters in labor, and everyone else who helped make this possible.

Mike Castle, we’re coming after you!

  18. Brooke says:

Rebecca, capture and release won’t be the big problem. Stupak will. 🙁

  19. Kevin in NY says:

Well here we go. 1 step closer to a complete failure to the america we know. Do you really believe bigger govt is good. If so ask my wife who fled Communist poland in the early 80s. There were lines at the hospital for visits and DR’s took patients who payed extra cash to see them first. If you think this is good just wait. If you are poor you are screwed.

This is just the beginning. Soon the govt will own your mortgage and tell you what you can do with your house. Your children will be puppets and democracy as we know it is over.

I am going to quit my job and live on welfare like most libs. I will get a free house and healthcare (NOW OWNED BY OBAMA). Hopefully Obama will give me a new car because he owns GM. This is great. We do not have to work because OBAMA said he will take care of me.

If this sounds great please let me know where you live so I can come give you my paycheck so you can live. He thinks you should have the same that I have because that is fair.

Well I went to 12 years of college and busted my ass to give my children better. Slackers dropped out of school, got high, drank all day, robbed and broke the law and now I will have to pay more to support ypou for making bad choices.

I know some need help but most losers made there own choices and chose to do nothing.

I have a friend from high school that I have known for 30 years. He had a good job and supported his family until 10 years ago. He did not go to college but he made a average living. He had a house and a new car. His kids had whatever they wanted. He now is a drunk (BY CHOICE) He has no jub, lost his house, His kids are always in trouble with the law, His wife is a drug addict and he collects welfare and food stamps and has medicare. He called me yesterday because he was excited that healthcare might pass. He said he deserved this because he worked hard for it. WAIT I STILL WORK FOR MINE DONT I DESERVE IT TOO. MAYBE WE ALL SHOULD STAY HOME, GET DRUNK, DO DRUGS AND GET FREE STUFF.

THIS IS THE MESSAGE WE ARE SENDING OUR CHILDREN

    DO NOTHING
    GET DRUNK
    FREE HOUSING
    FREE FOOD
    DONT GET A JOB
    MAYBE GET A FREE CAR

SOON THERE WILL BE NO TAXPAYERS LEFT AND MUSLIMS WILL OWN US AND BOMBINGS AND SHOOTINGS WILL BE A DAILY NORM

GOOD LUCK AMERICA I’M GOING TO SLEEP

  20. Tom S says:

Comrades, Did the bill include abortions and illegal coverage?

If BO-care doesn’t work, will it be Bush’s fault?

  21. anon says:

Bill Owen/ NY-23 WAS THE 218TH VOTE TO PASS HEALTH CARE!

    Now that is funny.

  22. Tom S says:

The funny/tragic thing is that our gov’t officials have 42% of their personal assets invested in financial-type companies and only 3% in healthcare…any coincidence there?

  23. Progressive Mom says:

wow…DL’s addy must have been posted on some tight-whitey FlufferNutter blog.

    In other health insurance news:

From today’s newspaper in Rochester, NY (perhaps our friend Kevin knows where that is): The Blues, who hold 70-75% of the insured market, are raising community rates 10-19%; employers are offering fewer options to insured employees “that in many cases cost more”; and “The combination of less choice and higher price is creating anxiety for individuals and families trying to balance their budgets…”

Gasp! The private insurer is (gasp again!)limiting choice and raising costs. Who knew?

  24. Kevin has quite the imagination, doesn’t he?

  25. Suzanne says:

    He’s “special” – that’s for sure…
