Time to Put Up or Shut Up Sussex County Republicans

Filed in National by on November 12, 2009

As a terrible storm slowly works its way up the coast, I hereby call on Mike Castle and Sussex County Republicans to demand that the federal government save our tax dollars by not spending on beach replenishment.  Sussex County is sick and tired of the inefficient and dangerous expansion of government into what should be local issues.  Sussex County is perfectly capable of taxing their citizens to pay for beach replenishment.  Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany and Fenwick can reach into their pockets to fund the cash-for-sand program.

In fact, I am sure that the businesses that operate in the Coastal Sussex area will happily contribute some of their wealth to the program.  Or perhaps Sussex residents will just pull themselves up by their bootstraps and pump the sand back on the beach themselves in a volunteer effort, not unlike the much celebrated Polihale bridge repair in Hawai’i.

Suck it up Sussex County and demand that Mike Castle reject any earmarks for Delaware beach replenishment.

Geek, this sounds like one of the comments on the NJ site today, which called on the homeowners who have beachfront property to pay for beach replenishment.

While I know your post is snark, you know that Wilson, Vincent, Cole, and Phillips are going to have their hands out for more Federal $$$. It’s the republican way of life – bitch about spending but always make sure you get your share.

wait… so… confused… a liberal site saying no to government funded state programs? In a state that is struggling to make payroll as it is? Think about sussex and how ass backwards it is. They will never raise their own taxes, because that would be socialist and anti christian. And if the Jew-governor raises them… well, it wont just be Indian River that our slower lower nazi neighbors control. I have a ducky idea… howsabout if the beach replenishment is something that NEEDS to be done, lets get some money from that MASSIVE STIMULUS PACKAGE. jesus christ in the first month all we heard about was “this factory re opened because of the stim…. this porject is underway because of the stim” if spending money is the way to save the country, lets freakin spend it!

Next summer Mike Castle will stand on Bethany’s socialist sand and, momentarily pausing in his message of fiscal conservatism, take credit for bringing Federal dollars to Delaware.

a.price – I am trying to be snarky by demanding that those SC Republicans actually try to live by their own principles. I know that the federal government will end up paying for it, but the Republicans are anti-earmark until it goes to their little piece of the world.

  5. a.price says:

ah. ok. your snark was lost on my lack of coffee this morning. I can get out of my bunker… the world isnt ending. but i still say where the hell is all that money?

The Feds don’t pay for all of it — last time I knew the Feds paid 65% and the states 35%. BushCo tried to flip this around, but I am not sure they were successful at it. So part of the taxes you pay to the state funds part of this replenishment boondoggle.

But snark or no, it really is well past time to rethink beach replenishments. Wonder if we could get the Sussex Countians to opt-out of this oppressive government program?

  7. MJ says:

And stimulus dollars are paying to replace the boardwalk here in RB. Two teabaggers showed up in August to protest this – that’s all they could muster. Thankfully, the county council didn’t have a say in the boardwalk replacement.

  8. phil says:

be glad to pay for it, if we can keep non-sussex countians off it. no, i dont care if there is a single business in the beach area.

  9. a.price says:

anything to keep the homos out of your america. you dont care if there is a single business? why do you hate business? why do you hate america?

$25 million washed away in 14 months. You cannot stop mother nature. I would imagine the Sussex County republicans, fully aware of THE WASTED GOVERNMENT SPENDING that is beach replenishment, and fully aware of the hypocricy of asking for federal dollars to “shore up” non essential, wasteful government programs, will take a pass on any further requests for federal money and thus our tax dollars. Vance phillips, Mike Castle and the rest of the Delaware GOP should hold a press conference on the beach demanding NO MORE WASTEFUL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS LIKE BEACH REPLENISHMENT.

A study was done many years ago that concluded that those who own property on the beach should pay for beach replenishment since they benefit from said property. Since Delaware does not have a sales tax, money from vacationers does not support the rest of us, only business owners on the beach. This is AMERICA. Time for those living on the beach and the businesses that thrive there to start paying and stop relying on the rest of us to fund their lifestyle. Damn Commies. Anyway, since there will be only a small piece of beach there next year, we can look forward to fewer vacationers, less traffic and better fishing.

Of course, that’s Mike’s favorite stunt. Vote against the stimulus package, show up at job creation events from stimulus package and take credit for it.

  12. phil says:

there are plenty of homosexuals in sussex county. why did you automatically assume i was trying to exclude them? i dont make any of my money from the beach. if all business at the beach went away, it would not affect my enjoyment of the beach one bit. thats why i dont care about business at the beach.

Hey now, those of us in western Sussex (aka Texas) don’t want to subsidize this either! Secede! It’s the only answer!
