Breaking: Earl Bradley Indicted on 400 Charges

Filed in National by on February 22, 2010

A Grand Jury indicted Earl Bradley on 400 charges for crimes surrounding the rape of 103 child victims.  The previously the number of reported victims was 9, but fears were rampant that that number would rise significantly.  It appears that those rumors have been realized.

i hope he gets even 5 minutes in general population in prison. Sadly, he will probably get to spend his life in a mental health facility. I

  2. skippertee says:

Please people, let’s not jump to conclusions. For God’s sake,he hasn’t been tried yet.Plus,we don’t know his back story.Could he have been horribly abused as a lad by his relative, poor chap? Also, who should play him in the movie? Inquiring minds would like to know.

  3. Rebecca says:

    Just Holy Crap.

  4. Truth Teller says:

Who is the Judge and why isn’t he named . Also why can’t we see the affidavit for the search warrant it’s a public record???

    And is skippertree for real????????????

  5. skippertee says:

No,I’m horrified by this case. It seems doctors are as bad ,if not worse,as cops at closing ranks and protecting their own. This guy should have been taken out years ago .

  6. anon says:

This guy will never go to trial. There’s no way his attorney, no matter how freaking smart, could mount any sort of defense that wouldn’t be laughed at. All the AG’s office has to do is play the video and rest their case. He’ll cut a deal, plead guilty and spend the rest of his life in solitary at DPC.

  7. fightingbluehen says:

I live in sussex county, and i noticed yesterday that the state had just removed the displays from the Bradely office.
I find it pretty darn uncaring that these children’s displays, which incidentally make the place look like a circus, where left up so long.

Why did the AG’s office not remove these items in a more timely and humane fashion ? Can you imagine the horror of having to drive past that crime seen day after day especially if you were one of the victims.

There is no way this guy is ever going to see the light of day again, even if there are procedural errors in the prosecution . I just dont see why the displays were left up so long.

  8. V says:

probably because the AG’s office was busy cataloguing and going through all the horrific interior evidence and figuring out how it related to 400 charges.

  9. fightingbluehen says:

So V, you say, it was an oversight on their part.

  10. cassandra m says:

V does not say it was an oversight. She does note that the AG’s resources are not unlimited and nor are all of them focused on this case.

Besides, it would not surprise me if they took some time to make sure they had all of the requisite CYA in place before moving that property. No one wants to give this guy or his lawyers a chance to sue because they didn’t dot all of the i’s and cross all of the t’s before moving the portions of his property not specifically evidence in the case.

  11. Geezer says:

TNJ treated this several days ago. There were several steps involved in dismantling the equipment, including getting permission from Bradley’s lawyer.

Typical conservative — all empathetic and concerned about mental pain, but not at all concerned over, say, people lacking means or insurance for health care.

  12. V says:

    FBH:
Cassandra did a good job of properly articulating what I was trying to covey. And Geezer does make a good point that they needed to make sure everything as done properly in case it could come in to play further down the road.

I would also point out that the state is not always responsible for the “clean up/take down” of crime scenes after evidence has been removed. There are horror stories from past decades where family members had to scrub the blood of dead loved ones from the wall after the police have been through. There are now several businesses that specialize in after CSI crime scene clean up to save families from that trauma.

  13. liberalgeek says:

Not to mention that if the equipment is not actually part of the crime scene, it is owned by someone. In this case it is likely owned by Bradley, so the State cannot take property without due process. Should they tear down the building also?

  14. anon says:

Yeah, the state can’t just come in and take away someone’s property because they’ve been accused of a crime, no matter how heinous the charges. I would be interested in learning how many times this actually does happen. I can’t really see cops and the AG’s office coming out and taking away the front-porch furniture at a house where someone was murdered just because it might remind residents of what happened there. This seems to be an exceptional case, with idiots sounding off at every opportunity.

  15. liberalgeek says:

Typical conservative response: Constitutional rights only applied when I want them to.

  16. MJ says:

These crimes have taken a toll on our community down here. While I want to see him spend the rest of his life behind bars, my concern lies with the victims and their families. We as a community need to come together for them and leave this fiend to his just desserts.

  17. If I may refocus this thread, my heart goes out to the children and their families. I hope justice is able to swift.

  18. MJ beat me to it while I was typing. I agree with him.

  19. V says:

From Bradley’s attorney via the News Journal article today. Looks like they are planning on a trial and not a plea:
Bradley’s attorney, Gene Maurer, said he had expected Monday’s sweeping indictment and anticipates additional victims will be found.

“I’m not surprised by the volume,” Maurer said, “but 103 victims seems a little like overkill. One conviction carries life in prison. You don’t need 103 of them.”

Maurer also said he would seek to move the trial out of Sussex County and reiterated that Bradley’s defense would focus on his mental state.

“We are working on getting someone in to see him who is most knowledgeable about this type of thing,” Maurer said. “I don’t know of anybody locally, so we’re taking our time to find the right person to see him. This is unprecedented.”

  20. MJ says:

If he is found guilty on all counts, the sentences need to be served consecutively so that he will never be free.

  21. fightingbluehen says:

My guess, is that he is safer in prison, rather than on the street.

  22. a.price says:

that is if they keep him segregated. Even in prison, child rapists are loathed. if he finds himself alone with a convicted killer who will also never be paroled….. well he will get what is coming to him.

  23. Perry says:

I am really, really disturbed by this man Bradley and the damage he has done to our children and their families. Moreover, certainly there were many, many forewarnings that were not acted upon, which makes me disappointed and very angry.

There is the complaint sent to the medical society by one of Bradley’s employees, his sister Lynda Barnes, several years ago (I think), but not acted upon by Dr Marvel the then President, who now claims it was a family matter and that no abuse was alleged. Barnes said parents had complained to her about ‘improper touching, financial problems, and taking antidepressant samples from his office’. Earlier, the medical society denied receiving a complaint. I hope Beau Biden investigates, separately, these allegations against the inaction of the medical society. I imagine there will be lawsuits as well, as their should be.

There is the fact that Beebe Hospital, in 2005, put a “chaperone” with Bradley when making rounds. What does this tell you that the hospital administrators must have known then? Beebe has been sued by six parents where Dr Marvel was head of pediatrics, for failing to report Bradley to appropriate medical and social service agencies.

A former colleague, Dr Scott, referred to Bradley as a pedophile when speaking to other pediatricians, though now he says his statement was ‘taken out of context’. What context could possibly lessen the meaning of the work pedophile?

There were two previous attempts to build cases against Bradley, one in 2005 involving excessive kissing of a 3 year old girl, and again in 2008 after three parents told state police about inappropriate vaginal exams, but a judge would not authorize a search warrant for his office.

I sense there is a lot of CYA going on down here, because it is against Delaware Law not to report alleged misbehavior to the medical society, to hospitals, to doctors and to the Delaware Board of Medical Practice. AG Biden has said that those who failed will be held accountable. Good!

All the above information has been reported in TNJ, so there is nothing new here, just my getting some of my anger out, and repeating some of the important facts of this case as we know them to be so far.

  24. Exactly Perry, what you outlined is another disturbing aspect to the case. Looking in as an outside, to me it looks like the medical community spent too much time protecting its own members. I agree, Perry, that the investigation of these related matters will be critical to moving on.

ugh it just keeps getting worse. First the holding upside down during the abuse. Now, the assaults were so violent that 5 little girls passed out.

  26. mellyb says:

To Skippertree- Video doesn’t lie. Bradley is perverted and knew what he was doing. Anytime someone hides what they do they know it is wrong. Someone abused him, possibly as a child? Might factor in, but it doesn’t excuse. Delawareans, as the entire country are hoorified. That he lived amoung US brings feelings we can’t quite describe and have difficulty coming to terms with. Doctors don’t “close ranks” as you put it- I know this on a personal/professional level. They may be in agreement about alot of things- such as being forced out of business by Obamacare- but none would cover up this kind of abuse! You know not of what you speak. If you find some excuse for his behavior, you can have him. He can live with you and babysit your kids/g’kids. We don’t want him alive. He is our shame in an otherwise beautiful beach community. Might I also add- should your identity become known here- You are not welcome to live or visit here, either.
