Another Tea Party Racist

Filed in National by on April 13, 2010

Carl Paladino is a prominent Republican developer in Buffalo, New York. He’s a member of the Tea Party and has decided to run for governor. From Paladino’s own website:

Mr. Paladino, 63, delivered a Palinesque populist message to a boisterous group of about 1,000 flag-waving supporters here, denouncing what he said was the government’s deepening encroachment into the lives of ordinary Americans.

“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Mr. Paladino told a roaring crowd that had gathered at the Ellicott Square Building in downtown Buffalo, one of several office complexes in his commercial real estate empire in western New York.

“The government is in shambles, and we’re paying for it in unbearable taxes far, far above the national average,” he added. “Are you mad? Are you gonna take it anymore?”

The headline on Paladino’s website says “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

WNYmedia.com obtained a large batch of emails that Paladino had sent to a large group of people, including many prominent Republicans (the head of the Erie County Republican party, a Republican Congressmen and several Republican members of the state government are included). The emails are extremely racist, sexist and many are pornographic. [The link is NSFW– don’t click at work]

It’s been written countless times that Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino is something of a walking contradiction. But let’s take him at his word that the tragic death of his son Patrick in 2009 caused him to re-assess his life, his past, and his values. He transformed politically from a fence-sitting opportunist to the conservative Republican tea-party-type he holds himself out as today. In his plea to the Conservative Party, seeking their endorsement, he touted his anti-abortion, anti-gay-marriage stances. He’s all about the family values, and even counted Governor Paterson’s admitted affair as evidence of Albany corruption – until the media found out about his own extramarital affair and child birthed out of wedlock.

Paladino purports to be the values candidate, but what will values voters say when they discover that he enjoys sending hardcore pornographic and racist emails around town?

Last week, we received a deluge of emails that Carl Paladino had sent to a veritable who’s who of Buffalo-area politicians, media types, hangers-on, hacks, and appointees. Mostly, these are chain emails with a long provenance, including hundreds of email addresses of current and past recipients.

Among the the emails sent around were a video of African dancers titled “Obama Inauguration Rehearsal” which originated on the Stormfront neo-Nazi website, a video of monkeys doing Irish-type dancing titled “Proof the Irish discovered Africa.” He sent some racist pictures as well including a photoshopped picture of the Obamas as a pimp and prostitute:

This is the least offensive image I could find in the Paladino emails. Why do these guys bleat on about family values when it’s obvious they don’t believe in them? Paladino did get at least one complaint about the emails from a recipient and his response was along the lines of I’m not racist, I hate everyone and Stephen Colbert’s “I don’t see color.”

“I Can See Palin Derangement Syndrome From My House!”
    (Boston libs greet Sarah)
    Boston Herald ^ | April 13, 2010 | Michael Graham

Hey, I can see Palin Derangement Syndrome from my house!

You’ll see it too if you come to Boston Common tomorrow morning when Sarah Palin and the Tea Party Express roll into town. I’ll be broadcasting my radio show live during the event and I’ve been asked to be part of the program as well. But what I’m really looking forward to is seeing the gathering of hate-spewing, anger-crazed lunatics.

Or as they’re more commonly known, “Massachusetts liberals.”

What – you think the Tea Partiers are angry? You obviously haven’t picked up the latest copy of the Weekly Dig, a local “progressive” publication that invited readers to design signage to welcome Palin and push back against Tea Party hate speech.

Among the signs published are several featuring a word very similar to “witch,” a couple of swastikas, a Hitler mustache and – in an odd move by anti-Second-Amendment liberals – one with an American flag, a bleeding tea bag and numerous bullet holes.

    Stay classy, Boston liberals!…..

talk about derangement! you rube you!

The scary thing… photos and racist comments like these coming from Tea Partier Republicans don’t even shock me anymore. It’s the norm – which might be the saddest thing I’ve ever written.

  5. Geezer says:

I’ve got a sign: Ban the Trolls! P Schwartz does nothing here but cut and paste articles that will roil the liberals. It might help drive traffic, but it drives those looking for intelligence away.

Paladino is now in damage control mode. http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/04/12/1016974/paladino-accused-of-sending-racist.html

He has no shot, but that is beside the point. What a maroon!

  8. Oh please, do you really think this guy would send stuff out to the media and opinionmakers. He is either a basketcase or there’s a hacker. It sounds like a frame up or else this guy is emotionally a basket case from the death of his son and has no business near power. If something seems to strange to be true, it likely is. The guy is either a basket case or someone who is trying to destroy him hacked into his email account and sent items out to his list.

I do find it interesting that you think this guy is representative of anyone. 2009 the guy was basically a liberal. Now that he claims to be conservative he is one. There is no possibility that he has no idea what a conservative is (like most libs) and is trying to be a political opportunitist. I think the guy is disturbed though. The email controversy is different though. Why would someone who is trying to play the game purposefully sabotage those efforts? Knowing a little about NY politics, the email thing is so over the top that I bet it is a hack job.

  9. That’s a lot of excuses in one comment. Paladino isn’t denying that he sent the emails.

  10. Here’s Paladino’s excuse:

Paladino’s campaign manager said the candidate “regrets” some of the messages, but blamed Democrats of trying to “smear” Paladino with emails Paladino sent. (No, I don’t understand the argument either.) The far-right Republican yesterday also tried to blame Democrats for drawing attention to his own disgusting messages.

    Paladino himself blamed Democrats:

Today at a Tea Party rally in Buffalo, Paladino first said he had no idea what was in the e-mails, but when pressed further and told the nature of the messages, he blamed it all on…Democrats:

Q: Do you condemn the stuff that was forwarded in those e-mails?

PALADINO: I don’t know. I don’t know what e-mails you’re referring to specifically. I wouldn’t even know half of them if I saw them.

Q: Let’s take a look at some of them. … Is that appropriate for somebody who’s running for governor to forward to other people? It’s a very simple question.

PALADINO: Is it appropriate for the Democrats to want to smear —

Q: Carl, I’m not asking about the Democrats.

PALADINO: They can hear the rumblings, okay, of something happening.

Q: What does this have to do with the Democrats?

    PALADINO: Everything.

  11. Geezer says:

“2009 the guy was basically a liberal”

He was a Democrat until 2005, but nobody would describe him as a “liberal.” Oh, wait — David calls his collection of wingnuts the “center-right.”

  12. As I said the guy is either disturbed or set up. This proves it. If he is telling the truth, it is someone else in the political opposition who sent them to him. I have to worry about someone who can’t read reply all instead of delete. Multiple times. I say he is finished this year. I am sure in the future he will be back as Spitzers running mate.

This guy is a lefty Dem who knows the Democrats are lost in the woods. All of a sudden he is a conservative. Sure, unfortunately for him, he can’t drop his liberal past life so quickly. That hardly represents the conservative movement. As I said you don’t even understand what a conservative is.

  13. Dismiss it if you want, but this guy is obviously suffering from mental strain due to the death of his son. He needs to get help not be in politics. The man is a basket case who happens to have money. At least now everyone knows it.

  14. He’s definitely disturbed. What’s more disturbing is that he’s been sending these racist, sexist & pornographic emails for months to Republican leaders and it didn’t disqualify him in their minds from running for governor. The Congressman and Erie County Republican Chair both attended his announcement.

  15. pandora says:

Yes, UI. He found a warm and welcoming home.

  16. Geezer says:

And you don’t understand what a liberal is. Paladino’s anti-union position, for example, goes back to his days as a Democrat. He is not, and never has been, a “lefty.”

  17. Liberal, in David’s mind, is someone he doesn’t like. It’s as simple as that.

  18. Liberals are tax and spend, abortion loving, regulation embracing, marriage changing, evolution believing, tree hugging, neo-socialists.

  19. The reason the guy was not pro-union is that it hurt his bottom line. That is how libs operate. Free the criminals until you get mugged. Support the unions until they want more from your business. Situational values. Didn’t Geezer say on another thread that pro-union and progressive don’t always go together? The guy was a free love type and has a fondness for the animals. You don’t get more liberal minded. That is way too far for you guys. He is out there.

    Republicans are supporting Lazio.

  20. Von Cracker says:

So what if liberals are all that (which we’re not), but what is certain is that conservatives are selfish, ignorant assholes.

And your rant is Exhibit A.

I love the evolution slam…it’s like me yelling at you “You damn book reader, you!” Conservatives tax and spend, but they rather spend our taxes in a different country…so which is worse? Talk to a OBGYN, they’ll tell you that Conservatives love their abortions too, but the difference between a con and a lib is that the con will lie to everyone about it.

The rest is just arm-flailing gibberish. Neo-socialists? you must be having a laugh, because I am!

    Correction: Conservatives are neo-assholes! lol

  21. Von Cracker says:

Let’s tax the shit out of people for Universal Health Care, Free Education upgrades…fuck, let’s do the whole “Liberal Agenda” and just call it Defense Spending.

  22. anonone says:

    You’re a damn book reader.

  23. Von Cracker says:

    books with pictures at least….

  24. cassandra m says:

    arm-flailing gibberish

This would be David’s specialty, of course. G-d forbid that he should figure out that he should know what he is talking about before demonstrating just how much he doesn’t know.

  25. MJ says:

You did notice on the other thread that when David was challenged to put up or shut up, he shut up.

  26. Von Cracker says:

they all do since their ideology is all talk and ZERO practice. and when it was practiced, way back in the 80s, it failed miserably. St Ronnie raised taxes; GHWB raised taxes. Small Gov’t? Bullshit! You cannot have defense spending that equals the GDP of two-thirds of the world’s, cut taxes and services at home, and call it small gov’t. Cons want it both ways. Well fuck you! You can’t have it!

why do you think cons solely use the divide and conquer strategy of running on social issues? negativity and telling one who to hate are all they have left.

  27. Geezer says:

“The guy was a free love type and has a fondness for the animals. You don’t get more liberal minded.”

Are you saying conservatives believe in paying for love and they don’t like animals?

  28. exhausted says:

Conservatives’ idea of helping the poor is recruiting them into the Army.
