McGlinchey’s At It Again-One of His Flunkies Primarying Jaques

Filed in National by on June 2, 2010

The Man Who Would Be Party Chair continues to amaze. Instead of being chastened by having to withdraw his challenge to Party Chair Daniello, Brian McGlinchey has ginned up yet another challenge to Dem. Rep. Earl Jaques. You will recall that, in 2008, Jaques had to fend off not only Rep. Vince Lofink, he had to also battle McGlinchey, his mindless union minions, and his ‘Working Families Party’.

This time, McGlinchey is sending out James Maravelias, the Business Agent of Laborers’ Local 199, a local for which McGlinchey carries the checkbook, to primary a pretty darned good first-term legislator. Have I mentioned that McGlinchey wanted to be State Democratic Chair? And had to slink away in ignominious defeat?

There really is no policy reason to primary Jaques, who has been a dependable D vote on most issues. Maybe he’s also trying to help the oleaginous (and fellow Working Families Party ally) Richard Korn out in the primary for State Auditor by driving out the union vote. Regardless, at this point, one can only conclude that McGlinchey is trying to prove that ‘his is bigger’ than those who oppose him. If that’s the case, then Earl Jaques could well end up as the Lorena Bobbitt of this election year.

El Som…I rarely comment but I think you missed the read on this primary. Word is that this has nothing to do with WFP or Lofink…etc. It is all about Jaques and his true positions on core issues which impact working people and their families. Also, not sure if you know Maravelias…but that guy lives and breathes these issues…he’s nobody’s flunkie.

  2. Please. The Business Agent for McGlinchey’s union primaries Jaques. He wouldn’t be in this race w/o McGlinchey’s say-so. Remember again who holds the checkbook. If that doesn’t define ‘flunky’, define ‘flunky’ for me.

    As to the rationale:

“Word is that this has nothing to do with WFP or Lofink…etc.” Word from whom?

“It is all about Jaques and his true positions on core issues which impact working people and their families.” Such as?

  3. I certainly question Jaques’ decision not to vote (along with GOPers Miro and Blakely) on a bill that will discourage the current practice of Delaware residents (legal or otherwise) from driving vehicles registered in other states.

It is a great bill that serves a few purposes. It will put funds in the state coffers and it will crack down on PA-licensed vehicles in the well known scam used by illegal aliens made somewhat famous as a result of Elsmere’s 2006 ordinance: http://www.alipac.us/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=42745

    from Wed. GA Wrap Up-
Rep. Hudsoncapano’s bill raising the fines for failing to register motor vehicles passed with only one (Plant) dissenting vote, and three Not Votings (Blakey, Jaques, Miro).

Perhaps it’s time for ‘Bulo to retire this particular conspiracy theory of his.

  4. Right, Nanc. No doubt that bill drove Malevolopolis’ decision.

Had nothing to do w/McGlinchey betting big on Lofink and losing. Business managers of union locals ALWAYS go against the wishes of the guy with the union checkbook. You can look it up. Under ‘Fantasy’.

I’d rather have more union members than more retired cops at leg hall. Not only that I like Bri and look forward to seeing him soon.

  6. Geezer says:

Cops are union members too, aren’t they?

I suspect that the decision to run is a direct response to Jaques opposition to expanding gambling. The unions have been bussing members in to support the construction, and therefore union jobs. Earl has been against the casinos, I believe on morality and quality of life issues. I wonder if there isn’t actually some other forces at work here as well.

There have been some other Dems threatened with primaries if they fail to toe the party line. I wonder if this isn’t the same power center…
