I Guess Christine O’Donnell Is Still Running

Filed in National by on June 11, 2010

Just for grins, I thought I’d check out what’s going on with one of Delaware’s favorite losers, Christine O’Donnell. I guess she’s still trying to run for Senate, her website has been active lately. She’s touting the very important crazy blogger endorsement (Pamela Geller from Atlas Shrugged) and has a post that crowning Mike Castle as “King RINO.”

She was interviewed by the rightwing blog Red State. They loooooove her. Here’s what the interviewer wrote about her(haystack/Dave Poff):

My conversation with who I personally hope becomes the next US Senator from Delaware, Christine O’Donnell, is after the jump…

Down boy. Here’s O’Donnell on her electability:

As we wound down our conversation, I asked her for her thoughts on the campaign ahead…winding down to the primary and on (hopefully) to the general election:

We need to keep hitting our benchmarks so we can keep executing our ground game. We have a good strategy, and this fight is winnable. I’ve been challenged by critics about whether – even if we prevail over Castle – I could win against Coons in the general. I say “yes, I can.” We have a strong grassroots effort here in Delaware which is on the ground and growing every day.

This is a fight for the heart and soul of not only the Country but the Republican party as well. We’re fighting against the worst “Republican” in recent memory. He has sided with the Democrats 70% of the time, and gets a failing grade from a host of organizations including the NRA, CFG, and many others. Are we really satisfied with a liberal politician solely because he has an “R” after his name? I don’t think so. And, to take him out, we need to come together, get out the message, get people to the polls, and get the donations we’ll need to cross the state of Delaware to educate people on what is really at stake in this race.

We’ll go door to door. We’ll call phone to phone. We’ll send out all the literature we can in order to win this race. But, these things require postage and they require gasoline to drive across the state and talk to Delawareans…and these things will be paid for by donations. A $20.00 donation to O’Donnell for Senate is like $200.00 anywhere else…and if we can raise $300,000.00 we can fully implement our campaign plan; an efficient (and we believe effective) plan to put a true Conservative in Biden’s old seat.

Red State is running a grass roots money bomb for O’Donnell right now. She’s up to $5000 whole dollars. That should pay her mortgage at least 2 months.

Campaigning is hard work. Exposing yourself to public ridicule can be painful. Why does she do this? Does she truly believe she accomplishes something here? I guess so, and it’s nice for us that she does, but it is a mindset that I don’t understand.

  2. I think it’s how she pays the bills, Rebecca.

Exposing yourself to public ridicule can be painful. Why does she do this?

Because enduring ridicule is a Christian martyr virtue (albeit misapplied in her case) that makes her religiously motivated donors even more motivated. Lord knows what kind of fundraising pitch she uses on her tiny circle of true believers. Ridicule validates her righteousness to the crazy religious right. The more you ridicule Christine, the more money she makes.

Some people dream of being the next Tiger Woods and others dream of being the next Sarah Palin.

Her fans at Delaware Politics continue to fight off their more realistic compatriots. It’s nice to see the bloodletting, as well as the excuse-making for someone who’s pretty obviously conning people, perhaps including herself.

  6. jason330 says:

ZOMG! Pamela Geller is in O’Whackhjob’s corner. Don’t google “Pamela Geller” without first donning your level 4 hazmat/ three mile island gear.

  7. I don’t understand your opposition to O’Donnell. Clearly, DelawareLiberal is rooting for Democrats (regardless of the quality of those Democrats), so why wouldn’t you want O’Donnell to defeat Castle in a primary, thus making it easier for Chris Coons to capture the Senate seat?

  8. O’Donnell is a joke. Yes, I’d like her to beat Castle but I don’t see it happening.

  9. Do you say she’s a joke because of her platform, or her campaigning abilities? She certainly seems to be a weak, disorganized candidate, but in a Republican-only primary that will be decided by the majority of Republicans (who live in Sussex county), I think a win over Castle is possible, if somewhat unlikely.

  10. I don’t think the Sussex Republicans have that much power, look at what happened at the Republican convention.

  11. jason330 says:

A “majority of (Delaware) Republicans” do not live in Sussex county. 48,382 of them do. That’s 26% of the statewide total. New Castle is home to 100,896 (or 55%) of Delaware’s Republicans.

Castle can pretty much ignore Teabagistan.

  12. anon says:

But think about who’s going to be motivated to come out and vote in September. Not the Chateau Country-ites, unless their pal Michelle is in real danger of falling to Urquhart. The Sussex 9-12ers and Tea Partyists will come out to back O’Donnell, though.

  13. Jason330 says:

Even if 100% of teabagistan goes for O’whackjob, Castle only needs to motivate 48% of the New Castle Republicans to get out and vote to win the primary. that’s how outnumbered tea baggers are in Delaware. This is the quintessential lost cause.

In fact the real question is – why is Castle tacking to the right? He doesn’t need to and yet he clearly is.

  14. mike says:

Why is it that some of you are so in love with the term “tea bagging”? Keep using the term, it only shows how ignorant and childish you are.

  15. cassandra m says:

Because you people keep using it.

If you start out with your smug childishness, then you get hung out to dry on your smug childishness.

  16. jason330 says:

A teabagger just asked why I still use the word tea bagging. Do I have that right? Speaking for myself, I use tea bagging because I know teabaggers don’t like the term tea bagging.

  17. missundaztood says:

Tea Partiers can’t help O’Donnell as much as you think, many of them aren’t even registered Republicans.

Chris Slavens is an prime example of this. He whines endlessly about how “real” Republicans should vote for O’Donnell and Urquhart, and about who is, and who isn’t a “RINO” but according to his blog, he’s a registered Independent.

  18. anonone says:

Teabaggers dreaming of teabagging with Christine are 99.4% of her base appeal.
