O’Donnell Gets Another Endorsement

Filed in National by on August 19, 2010

Talking Points Memo has the scoop on the latest group to endorse Christine O’Donnell. It’s another Tea Party group and they have dire warnings about Mike Castle.

To the Tea Party, a vote for Delaware Senate hopeful Mike Castle (R) is a vote for a Democrat. Literally. Conservatives there are warning fellow tea partiers that if Castle gets elected, he’ll pull an Arlen Specter and switch parties when the going gets tough. So they’re endorsing his primary rival, Christine O’Donnell, instead.

“We are confident Christine O’Donnell will beat Mike Castle in the upcoming primary,” , Delaware Vice President of the Independence Hall Tea Party PAC. “Christine is a strong grassroots favorite. While her opponent has the support of establishment types, Christine has the support of the people.”

The group’s president, Don Adams, took things even further, explicitly comparing Castle to Republican-turned-Democrat-turned-lame duck Arlen Specter.

“Our PAC Board endorses the most viable conservative candidates,” said Adams. “Unfortunately, Mike Castle is not a conservative–in fact, he’s a potential Arlen Specter.”

I feel like I’m watching “The Life of Brian” with the Judean People’s Front and the People’s Front of Judea. Just how many of these Tea Party groups are there anyway? I’m sure O’Donnell is thrilled with the latest endorsement – so when’s the Mama Grizzly herself going to step in?

Anyone who uses the term ‘grassroots’ in a press release automatically fails as to credibility.

  2. I would be really, really surprised if Palin weighed in on this race (at least during the primary). It wouldn’t really be in her interest to do so.

  3. orestes says:

Casle wins. Coons will lose. Palin does a powder in thia Race as does Demint. You hearc it here first.

One of the nutbags at DP caught O’freakshow in a stone cold lie. The O’grifter’s supports responses in the comment section are hilarious. The theme is, “so what?”

Mike’s votes are the only reason Christine is remotely relevant.

Still, I can’t pull the trigger for someone who has no track record of office or anything for the GOP, I will hold my nose and vote Mike.

    Oh, are you Christine’s ex-boyfriend?

“Oh, are you Christine’s ex-boyfriend?” Great line. Make sure that you add Free Republic to your “Favorites”! It’s enough to make any DL head explode.

Hey, at least the teabaggers have the balls to give Castle a good scare.

What exactly are we doing about Tom Carper again?

  11. Mike Matthews says:

I’m hoping someone will primary Carper

  12. cassandra m says:

The teabaggers aren’t giving Castle much of a scare. You saw his vote for the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, right? Not exactly the vote of an R who is worried about teabaggers.

I hope someone primaries Carper too.

  13. ROFL at that Free Republic thread. The commenters are all – why didn’t Erickson’s report that Castle’s switch and deal with Biden was a done deal! One commenter ventures to comment that O’Donnell wouldn’t win in DE but gets slapped down with O’Donnell leads Coons.

The teabaggers aren’t giving Castle much of a scare.

Polling under 50% has to be pretty scary for Castle, even if he’s not talking about it. The local teabaggers surely had a hand in pulling down his approval ratings. Castle absorbed the first shot in the teabag purge (Crazy Eileen) but it has gotten more organized since.

I’m sure Castle didn’t expect to be in this kind of campaign. (Michele Rollins: “Yeah, tell me about it”).

  16. Thanks orestes!

    Heehee, from the comments:

I think its time for Christine O’Donnell, especially in light of this latest embarrassment, to take a few years off, bring her immense talents to bear in the private sector and rehabilitate herself both politically and financially. In ten years, she’ll be the same age Michele Bachmann is now, and far better prepared for public office.

  17. anon says:

Christine could become the Betty Ford for rehab of failed Republican politicians. Thirty days in the “O’Donnell Center” and you come out with a fresh start.

  18. Geezer says:

How to keep your Mike Protack loyalties straight: Flyboy hated Castle, and based on his rhetorical points has no reason to like him now. But Castle is running against O’Donnell, who crushed Protack’s lifelong dream of seeing his name appear in the “Loss” column of the election for a major office. So, given the choice between someone who offends his “principles” and someone who done him wrong, the “principles” go out the window.

    Thanks, orestes, for reminding us.

  19. dv says:

You know, he has to be a little worried that a bunch of steam is coming at pretty much the wrong time. This has all the chance in the world to get enough momentum and get out of control before he can shake enough hands at the Polish Festival.

The Crazy Eileens of this state and ex Clatworthians will be all over this stuff.

  20. DV, you just inspired a new poll question!

  21. anon says:

O’Donnell can knock out Castle, but not in the way she thinks.

By losing to Castle but making him damaged goods, O’Donnell and the teabaggers can definitely put Castle in plausible range of defeat by Coons.

  22. By losing to Castle but making him damaged goods, O’Donnell and the teabaggers can definitely put Castle in plausible range of defeat by Coons.

Damage in what way? Make him break his moderate image?

  23. anon says:

Put it this way: Less than two years ago, Jason was the only person in Delaware who had anything untoward to say about Castle.

Now, Castle is a whipping-boy for GOP activists statewide, and is fair game on talk radio, blogs, and letters to the editor. None of this was happening in 2006 or 2008.

Hearing “Castle” and “traitor” (however misguided) is music to my Democratic ears. This is the kind of Drudge/FOX-like language that percolates into the electorate and creates the beginnings of a hostile environment for Castle.

Somehow the teabaggers don’t strike me as the types to bury the hatchet and support Castle after the primary.

  24. If Mama Grizzly endorses, odds are that he is gone.
