Filed in National by on May 11, 2010 19 Comments

First off, I won’t play the political blame game concerning Jane Brady and Beau Biden on this issue until we know whether Beau is going to be fine. Today, I am just reporting the substance of the Bradley Report, or more specifically the findings and recommendations of Widener Univerity School of Law Dean Linda Ammons. […]

Delaware General Assembly Pre-Game Show Plus RANT: Tues., May 11, 2010

Filed in Delaware, National by on May 11, 2010 4 Comments

Not that it’s hard to do, but today I will demonstrate the sheer cravenness of politicians, especially, but not exclusively, legislators. J. L. Miller wrote an excellent article in yesterday’s News-Journal about the ‘one size fits all’ Scarlet Letter of the online sex offender registry, especially as it applies to minors. I have  previously written […]

Tea Party Targets Mike Castle

Mike Castle may be seen as an almost-sure winner to take a Democratic seat in November, but that doesn’t make him popular with the Republican base. CRI Needs Crash Course in Math

Filed in National by on May 11, 2010 7 Comments

Today, when CRI and its Republican friends in the General Assembly cite a new study that shows that SB 234 would cost too much and do too little to increase recycling, remember that the figures in the study are pure bullshit, and that the study itself was prepared only for the partisan purpose of killing the bill.

RNC Jerks Knees, Knock Selves Out

Filed in National by on May 10, 2010 4 Comments

President Obama announced his nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan as his pick for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Kagan has a rather impressive resume. One item on Kagan’s resume is that she clerked with Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, whom she considers her mentor. Apparently the RNC thinks Kagan’s Marshall ties are a […]

Get Out The Vote, Scientifically

Filed in National by on May 10, 2010 15 Comments

One of the biggest issues for a political campaign is how do you get your base out to vote. Two researchers took a look at this problem and looked at what effect phone calls had on getting citizens out to vote. The study targeted over 150,000 Pennsylvanian registered voters in 2008 who had only voted once […]

Hair Of The Dog?

Filed in Science and Health by on May 10, 2010 6 Comments

Whenever I’ve had a little too much “fun” (and ended up paying for it) my brother would always say, “hair of the dog.”  Looks like he had a point. Scientists have discovered the molecule in the brain that leads to hangovers. The neuropeptide, a brain-signalling molecule, is believed to cause the body to experience withdrawal […]
