It’s Just So Unfair!!!!

Filed in Delaware by on June 8, 2011

Yesterday the News Journal had a rather hilarious article about the proposed redistricting plan. Mysteriously, some current lawmaker’s post opponents have found themselves redistricted out of their old district. It’s just so unfair (and nefarious).

Coincidentally or not, Democratic Rep. Rebecca Walker’s Republican opponent in the 2010 election will no longer be living in her 9th District next year if the House Democrats’ plan is approved as drawn.

“There’s no doubt that they played the political game there and wanted to block me out to run again because the race was so close,” said John Marino, who lost the 2010 contest to Walker by 282 votes.

Terry Spence was redistricted out of the 18th district, but Pete Schwartzkopf thinks that was a mistake:

“That was probably a mistake,” Schwartzkopf said. “He’s already ran against Barbieri twice and lost. I should have kept him in so he could run again and lose a third time.”

Yeeeee-ouch! Somehow I’m getting the feeling that House Democrats have little sympathy for Republican complaints.

This won’t be the first time in Delaware that potential candidates found themselves in new districts. House Republicans did it to Democrats in 2002.

“The Republicans certainly didn’t play fair politics as well,” Marino said. “I guess that’s part of the game.”

Yeah. Amazing how that happened. Hey, I’d certainly prefer a non-partisan redistricting process but Republicans had many, many years to come up with something. I have no absolutely zero sympathy for their complaints now that they are in the minority.

    Gee…aint karma a bitch!

Personally, I would have loved the opportunity to help Barbieri beat Spence again. It has been so fun listening to Spence’s whining about the unfairness of each of the past two elections!

  3. So the state GOP played dirty with the lines and a decade later lost all control of any state government branch… so the Democrats did the same?

..hows that gonna work out for ya?

  4. John Manifold says:

Spence is Floyd Patterson, dying for another 150 seconds in the ring with Sonny Liston Barbieri.

The rest of that article was a waste of space. So a bunch of losers complain that they can’t have a second pop? This isn’t a double-elimination tournament. A functioning party would have a lineup of prospects against a putatively weak vote-getter.

  5. Seein’ as how Terry Spence and Bruce Reynolds lived across the street from each other in the suburban community of Stratford, and how the district lines were drawn right down the middle of the street to give each their own district, Spence has no room to whine about gerrymandering.
