Live Long….
I think one of the reasons I like President Obama so much is that he is a geek, a sci-fi geek, a Trekkie, just like me.
Look at that perfect Vulcan salute.

Fox News reports that Barack Obama was born on Vulcan, pledges allegiance to the Koli Naar.
I LOVE Nichelle Nichols. She’s such an inspiring woman. When we went to the Sci-Fi museum in Seattle we saw a video of her talking about an encounter she had with Martin Luther King, Jr about her role. She was looking to quit Star Trek and he convinced her not to. 🙂
And for the record, Nimoy borrowed that salute from Jewish tradition. That’s the Cohen salute!
I never knew that (Cohen Salute). Yes, Nichelle Nichols is an amazing woman.

There you’ll find some more info on the Jewish origins of the Vulcan salute. We don’t actually use it as a salute, it’s a gesture used in blessings. I was oversimplifying.
@MRS XStryker–if you go on YouTube and Google Nichelle’s name along with “The Lieutenant” you will find an extended clip from her very first television appearance on what was Gene Roddenberry’s last show before he did Star Trek. It was one of the first show to include African-American actors with real personalities in an ensemble cast, and sadly very few episodes were made. But there is a tremendous scene on YouTube of Nichelle as a young army wife trying to convince her husband not to be so combative, and to just “get along” that showcases both her acting ability and (to be honest) her rampant sex appeal far more that Star Trek ever did . . ..
