Sorry this is late! Lots of cooking is going on at my house — roasted tomato and basil soup and a dark chocolate cake. Let the cooking season begin!

The NYT has a gorgeous story about a woman who needed public help and used that help to teach herself how to be free of that help AND pay taxes to help the others who need it. This woman’s story about getting help from the government, we should remind ourselves, is TYPICAL. Most folks who take government help do so temporarily, in contradiction of the stereotype.

So Sad — the Giant Panda Cub that was born last weekend in DC died this morning.

Best description of the Romney Campaign so far, by a dKos commenter:

OMG…
Rom(bai)ney moves in and takes over the Repub. campaign, mortgages it to the hilt, pays out bonuses, makes everyone involved on his behalf rich, leaves the party on the brink of collapse, all in the name of saving it? Something familiar about this scenario.

What interests you this weekend?
