Holy Bajeebus. YouGov dropped a metric ton of polls on us yesterday, and their results turned Ohio, Virginia, and Florida a lighter shade of blue. I might have to read up on Nate Silver’s grading on YouGuv. Other states got bluer, like Nevada, Michigan, Iowa and New Hampshire. No state changed hands though, and we are stuck with the same numbers on our Electoral College map as we have been for weeks: Obama 347, Romney 191. The stability of the race is a feature.
A refresher on my methodology in coloring the map: 1) I do not count Rasmussen or other obviously Republican polls; 2) I prefer Registered Voter results versus Likely Voter results (although by now the transition to likely voter models is almost universal); and 3) if we have multiple polls in a state on one day, then the majority finding rules. And if you want a refresher on why as state is a particular color, the legend key is at the bottom of the map.

Romney’s Base is Literally Dying
With the Republican base already shrinking, you know as the United States starts turning different shades of brown, there is more bad news for the GOP.
For generations of Americans, it was a given that children would live longer than their parents. But there is now mounting evidence that this enduring trend has reversed itself for the country’s least-educated whites, an increasingly troubled group whose life expectancy has fallen by four years since 1990.

Warren/Brown Debate Tonight 7:00pm
I’m not real up on Massachusetts politics, but I love Elizabeth Warren. She is a Democrat’s Democrat and if elected will be the philosophical heir to Paul Wellstone in the Senate. The accidental incumbent, Scott Brown, hoped to get out of the debates, and hang it on the possibility of missing a vote. There will be no vote in the Senate, so let the rhetorical blows rain down in this Republican empty suit.

The Obama Campaign Team gives me the impression that not only are they the hardest working team in the business, but that they are also having a damned good time while they are at it. This new video used Mitt Romney’s words to show the importance of “context”.
Chick-fil-A caves
I had a feeling that making money would trump the company founder’s desire to hate on gay marriage. This is America dammit!
A Chicago advocacy group says that the restaurant Chick-fil-A has promised to back away from funding socially conservative groups that have pressed to limit marriage to one man and one woman.

I’ve been reading a lot of conservative blogs lately. I’ve donned my level 3 biohazard suit, and walked through the looking glass and read comment threads on “Red State” and other cesspools of conservative “thought.”
I’m frankly fascinated by wingnuts trying to come to terms with the debacle that is this election cycle. In no particular order, these are some of the things I keep reading.

Thursday Open Thread [9.20.12]
A racist Texas homeowner has lynched an empty chair representative of President Obama, in his front yard. His neighbors complained, and this was his response:
“I don’t really give a damn whether it disturbs you or not,” [Bud] Johnson reportedly told [his complaining neighbor]. “You can take [your concerns] and go straight to hell and take Obama with you. I don’t give a shit. If you don’t like it, don’t come down my street.”
His street? He didn’t build that.
This is just … mind blowingly awesome…
For some unknown reason, some states allow their judges to be elected, rather than appointed. As you know, this can cause problems. Far right radical theocrats can get elected in some circumstances because judicial elections are often overlooked and spark low voter interest. Michigan Supreme Court candidate Bridget Mary McCormack tackles the subject in a four minute campaign ad that is a long awaited reunion of the cast of the West Wing!
