State of Emergency in City of Wilmington

Filed in Delaware by on October 27, 2012

Mayor Baker declared a State of Emergency in the city starting at 3pm TODAY. Folks in the Southbridge area have a MANDATORY evacuation order starting on SUNDAY 28 October beginning at noon:

The evacuation zone (the southeast portion of the City) is bounded by Vandever Avenue, Northeast Boulevard, Church Street, Front Street and South Market Street. This area is further bounded to the south by the City line just past the South Market Street Bridge and the Delaware River to the east. A map depicting the MANDATORY evacuation area is posted on the City’s website: www.WilmingtonDE.gov.

The press release at the link provides more detail on the evacuation. The City will provide transportation to shelter if anyone needs it, but everyone needs to be out of the evacuation area by 6pm tomorrow. They won’t be able to provide rescue services if there is flooding, but WPD will be there to protect property.

Everyone is taking this storm seriously, so please do the same. Please forward this on to the people you know in town. If you are in the City, remember that the Shop Rite is in the evacuation area, so if you are planning on supplies from there, do it now.
