Friday Open Thread [1.27.12]

Two major polls from NBC and ABC show the same thing: Mitt Romney's favorability has dropped dramatically over the course of the Republican primary. In one poll, among independents, 51% don't view him favorably while just 23% do. That is mind-blowingly bad. Sarah Palin bad. Dan Quayle bad. Jack the Ripper bad. So in the end, it doesn't matter who is the nominee of the Republican Party anymore. Whether it is Romney or Gingrich, both are going to lose, and probably lose big, to President Obama.

My Thoughts On Last Night’s GOP Debate

I've always known Mitt Romney was going to be the nominee - whether the Republican base wanted him or not. They don't, btw. That said, he may wrap it up sooner than later. So what happened last night...

Delaware Political Weekly: January 21-27, 2012

Anyone expecting Sen. Mike Katz (4th) to go gently into that good night against Greg Lavelle are bound to be disappointed. Katz already has almost $200 K in the bank, much of it from Delaware's medical community, with $73K in the form of a personal loan. Lavelle has $82K, $25K of which is in the form of a personal loan. This is one race where finances will not do the Democrat in. Meanwhile, neither Dave Sokola nor Liane Sorenson are rolling in dough. Time to toss some $$'s Sokola's way.

Me No Speaka Da English

Apparently, you need to speak the Queen's English in order to run for office in Arizona. At least that's what some county judge ruled in Yuma today.

Campaign Finance Reports – KWS Edition

End of year campaign finance reports were due by January 20, 2012, and of course, KWS filed hers late. It makes for some interesting reading. It seems that a number of individuals and law firms with an interest in the captive insurance industry like KWS enough to give her money. Now mind you, captive insurance does nothing for the consumer. It isn't to benefit Delaware consumers; captive insurance is insurance for corporations. It isn't to benefit our state, and, despite her claims to the contrary, the captive bureau does not fill the state's coffers. So why does KWS push the captive bureau so hard? Because it makes her donors (lawyers and law firms who work in captive insurance) more money. And in turn, they kick-back money to her campaign.

Thursday Open Thread [1.26.12]

Two polls yesterday indicated two things: 1) that the Democrats are heading for a takeover in the House, and 2) Romney now has toxic favorability numbers that make him, and Gingrich, unelectable in the general. Meanwhile, President Obama has a 53% favorability rating.

Soylent Green is People

My guess is that it was a slow day in the Oklahoma State Senate. Why else would this rethuglican legislator introduce this bill? An Oklahoma Republican is pushing a bill…

Today is Budget Day

Today we find out Medicaid is to be "reformed?" Will it be reformed by punishing those who need it through the cutting of benefits? Or will it be reformed through…
