    Agreed. If facts don’t meet their ideology, then the facts can’t be true.

    There is actually a term for that. It’s a form of cognitive dissonance called “belief disconfirmation paradigm”

    Cults especially, suffer from this. When their predictions of doom don’t come true they double down. Sort of like when the world is going to hell in a hand basket, which it has been for last couple of centuries or so.
