In this week’s address, the President celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act by underscoring the importance of one of the most fundamental rights of our democracy – that all of us are created equal and that each of us deserves a voice.

Governor Markell discusses legislation signed this week to transform Wilmington schools.

This week, the President announced a new action to cut harmful carbon pollution, advocated for the Iran deal, celebrated his 54th birthday, and inaugurated a new class of Mandela fellows.

    Markell’s video is disappointing. About 50 seconds in, he claims this will help lessen the amount of bussing of city kids. No, it won’t. The city HAS neighborhood schools for elementary. There is no bussing and there never has been any questions about elementary. The question of bussing sets in at middle and high school. Middle for Red Clay and High School for Red Clay AND Christina.

    Markell is either lying or just unaware of basic facts. Even if Christina is turned over to Red Clay, bussing WILL NOT BE STOPPED because the CITY doesn’t have the physical middle and high school capacity to PREVENT the bussing.

    So, while the “no more bussing” is a great sound byte, it’s completely wrong. Of course, nothing shocks me anymore with this administration and education…
