Congressional Debate Tonight

Filed in National by on April 12, 2016

No disrespect to Michael Miller, a perennial also-ran from Congressional races in the dark years of Mike Castle’s reign in the 90’s and 2000’s who is also running again this year for reasons passing understanding, tonight’s congressional debate hosted by the University of Delaware College Democrats will essentially be a two-man show down between Bryan Townsend and Sean Barney. Yes, we know that there is a third credible candidate in the race by the name of Lisa Blunt Rochester. But she backed out of tonight’s debate for scheduling conflict reasons, which seems … interesting.

Anyone, here are the details:

  1. Don’t quite know what, other than a death in the family or similar emergency, would keep a candidate for Congress from participating in a legit congressional debate.

The LBR no show is odd.

On a related note… Has anyone noticed how liberal all the Congressional and Senate candidates in PA sound on TV? It is blowing my mind. I’ve always said that father time is the only person who can take out Carper, but who knows? Maybe eventually a Townsend…?

“Has anyone noticed how liberal all the Congressional and Senate candidates in PA sound on TV?”

Definitely. I first noticed it with Tom Wolf’s campaign.

They mostly indentify themesves as Democrats, which is a new thing. And a Dem candidate for AG bills himself as “the first to prosecute a cop for murder” or something like that.

The Sestak campaign is really interesting. Based on his ads Sestak is running as an anti establishment center-left Democrat. And the establishment hates Sestak, for various petty reasons. In a very unusual move, Obama and Biden have endorsed Sestak’s mushy centrist opponent (McGinty), and she is touting Obama’s endorsement, which is also a new thing for Democrats. Sestak is currently leading in the primary polls.

On the other hand, Toomey has an ad with some cop’s wife speaking, and saying how Toomey courageously “denounced the riots” (caused by cops killing unarmed black people and escaping prosecution). Toomey seems reluctant to appear in his own ads.

Also, here is my question for Sean Barney:

“Remember when you ran against Ken Simpler? WTF?”
