Don’t you just hate it when you’re a Democratic candidate for US Congress from Delaware, and something like this happens?:

  1. Delaware Dem says:

Wait… do you mean that this Scott Walker that filed to run in the Democratic Primary for Congress actually meant to run as a Republican???

    That. Is. Fucking. Hilarious.

  2. chris says:

You have to write out your party affiliation on the form when you file How could you mess that up? and Dep’t of elections does verify your info when you go in and file….makes no sense

  3. Steve Newton says:

Chris, I’m not defending this guy, but it actually can happen. About two years ago I delivered a stack of Libertarian candidate papers to the Department of Elections, all carefully filled out (and minor parties use a different form than Dems and GOPers, anyway). I think I was filing 12 or 15 candidates statewide. Two of them initially appeared on the Department of Elections website as Democrats. I called them and they were embarrassed as hell, and the website changed within 20 minutes, but it did happen. Data entry errors can plague anybody.

  4. I happen to KNOW this Scott Walker. So this doesn’t come as a shock. He filed and is running as a D. Uh, maybe he forgot?

  5. Brian says:

Are we sure we have the right Scott Walker? Anyone check his residency? WI and DE…right next door.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

So Steve, this can be corrected with a simple phone call to the COE, if I am understanding you, yes?

  7. The Delaware phone # is the giveaway. It’s the right Scott Walker. Who is a registered D running in the D primary with lit that identifies him as an R. It’s as simple (minded) as that.

  8. delady says:

I’ve seen some of his signs in weird places. There’s one wrapped around a telephone pole in Dover. And I saw one kind of shoved into a corner somewhere in Kent too.

  9. Steve Newton says:

DD I’m not sure anybody could do it. By that I mean the guy at COE knew me and knew I was a party official, and had just accepted the paperwork from me like six hours before, so he pretty quickly realized it was a mistake.

But I am assuming that anybody could call and ask them to check their accuracy, yes.

  10. Dem19703 says:

Is the right Scott Walker. He decided to run as a Dem because he felt it would give him the best opportunity to get his message across, according to an article in a Sussex County news site (which I can’t seem to find. So if anyone has seen it, a little help?)

This is the guy who sued City of New Castle and NCC code officers for violations of his 4th Amendment rights because his tenants let them in to inspect deplorable living conditions. Turns out, he rents to mostly the disabled and houses them 2, 3, 4 to a room and does no maintenance. Though tenants are the legal residents and can allow anyone they want to enter, he feels that since he is the owner that the code officers committed illegal searches. Even after obtaining warrants for follow ups, he sued again. The various locations were found to have rodent and insect infestations, windows and doors in disrepair, non-ADA compliant facilities, no trash removal, peeling paint, and many more.

He is essentially collecting the poor and disabled and using them for his own profit. Sounds like a republican to me.

  11. cassandra_m says:

The NJ ran a profile on this Scott Walker who seems like a piece of work. His concern with discrimination against minorities seems utterly tied to the fact that he is breaking code and zoning laws to provide substandard housing to said minorities.

  12. Dem19703 says:

Cassandra, that is 100% correct. He is a slumlord on the same plane as Pabian and Fantini. Charge cheap rent, don’t give a contract, threaten to kick them out if they complain, and don’t fix anything. That is the standard formula. I wonder, however, how the disability card factors in. Does he get credits from the state for that, or is he taking advantage of these folks to get their disability checks? Either way, the slumlord moniker applies.

  13. Ben says:

The state has elected Carper, Coons and Markell. Stands to reason a Republican would run as a Dem to get elected. Not like the voting public in this state actually pays attention.
