Carney Poll Numbers Tank on Stumbling, Bumbling Start

Filed in National by on July 18, 2017

There is time for Carney to redeem himself, but he’d have to do something that seems like an anathema to him – be a Democrat.

Yet herein will I imitate the sun,
Who doth permit the base contagious clouds
To smother up his beauty from the world,
That, when he please again to be himself,
Being wanted, he may be more wonder’d at,
By breaking through the foul and ugly mists
Of vapours that did seem to strangle him.

Via Allan Loudell:

We don’t get very many statewide polls in Delaware.

So it’s instructive to see the Morning Consult polling on the nation’s governors.

Delaware Governor John Carney’s net approval rating drops 19 points, although half of Delaware’s registered voters still support him. Undoubtedly, this reflects some of the painful budget decisions. I don’t recall former Governor Jack Markell dipping like this, but you could argue Governor Markell and state legislators kicked the can down the road, leaving the painful decisions for now. And again, we see few statewide polls in Delaware.

And Carney DIDN’T kick the can down the road?

Before acting like a Democrat, lets start with baby steps. LEAD on something.

  2. jason330 says:

Yeah. Lots wrong with the first couple of months.

    Wow, down 19 points…… that’s quite a drop…. Honeymoon OVER!!!

  4. Minner and Carney kicked the can down the road eight years ago and left Markell to clean up the mess.

That deficit was far worse than what Carney faced this year. Maybe if he hadn’t spent the first four months or so of his term going to coffee klatches with well-off retirees, he might have stopped the can kicking.

Looks like he’s getting his can kicked pretty good right about now.

    Very funny, El Som! Clever.
Yes, the budget reset presentations were painful and a wasted dog and pony show.

What’s the Carney plan for next budget season?

  6. mikem2784 says:

Does he have any real policy initiatives, plans, hopes, etc. or is just kind of riding the wave until the next budget season, when, gasp, it will still suck?

  7. jason330 says:

Have you heard of any policy initiatives, plans, hopes, etc? I haven’t.

Low poll numbers are what generate interest from potential candidates.

The Republican would have probably been better than this or at least no worse
