Pete Peterson Is Gone, But His Bad Ideas Live On in Carper

Filed in National by on March 26, 2018

The patron saint of Delaware Democrats, Peter G. “Pete” Peterson, died last week. He’s the former Nixon commerce secretary who made his billions co-founding the Blackstone Group, one of Wall Street’s hungriest vampire squid. To the greater detriment of Americans, he also co-founded the Concord Coalition, the bipartisan panel of deficit scolds who preach austerity and convert every Democrat Delaware sends to Washington. Tom Carper gets along with them famously.

Jamming its blood-funnel into anything that smells like money.

RE–I love when you use the words “blood” and “money” in the same post. I am starting to think you might be a ghost writer for a murder mystery novel writer. Keep it up.

I prefer Russ Peterson, the only Delaware Governor, and a republican I ever respected.

  4. Alby says:

It’s a quote from Matt Taibbi. Right over your head.

  5. Remember those John Carney townhalls on how to keep those darned deficits down? He brought the ‘non-partisan’ Concord Coalition to town to facilitate these exercises in non-partisanship. Here’s a pretty damn good thread from Cassandra on this Carn(e)y and his hokum:

Delaware needs an activist cheer leader governor. I’ve been here 31 years and don’t remember any.

  7. RE Vanella says:

Yep, stolen from Taibbi. Alby hit the vampire squid note, so I came in with a bit. Like jazz.

It’s a beautifully written opening graph to one of the best pieces on the financial crisis I know of… The Great American Bubble Machine.

“The first thing you need to know about Goldman Sachs is that it’s everywhere. The world’s most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money. In fact, the history of the recent financial crisis, which doubles as a history of the rapid decline and fall of the suddenly swindled dry American empire, reads like a Who’s Who of Goldman Sachs graduates.”

Pete Peterson? One evil POS down, many more to go, Carper in particular but Coons as well. Peterson was one of those creeps that the more you know the more you hate them. As for “austerity” Peterson’s idea of austerity was the end of the social contract, the end of America being for all Americans and rule for and by the rich.
