April 11 Open Thread: Here Comes Comey

Filed in National by on April 11, 2018

As James Comey’s book release approaches, he’s making the rounds of the TV pundit shows, so take this with a grain of salt: Folks at ABC who were present for his five-hour interview with George Stephanopoulos say they were “stunned” at some of the things he revealed, including his comparison of The Donald to mafia don. The latest sign that the jig is almost up is this scathing editorial in the New York Times, whose editorial board is not known for venturing far out on limbs.

Whatever Paul Ryan’s reasons for not running again, money wasn’t among them. He pulled in more than $11 million last quarter, while his top Democratic opponent raised $2.1 million.

Matt Bittle at the Delaware State News outlines the various proposals that have been put forth in the General Assembly to deal with the opioid crisis. Not surprisingly, it gives primacy to a bill sponsored by Stephanie Hansen, an actual lawyer, that would direct the money raised (an estimated $9 million) to drug treatment.

Mark Zuckerberg has apparently gotten this far in life by playing the “innocent me” card so often he had no other tricks up his sleeve for Congress yesterday. The innocent act is bullshit: He knew years ago that people could mine its data without users’ permission.

There are good reasons to impeach Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas — lying during his confirmation hearing, for starters. But the best side effect would be to take away what power his wife has on the obnoxious right. Ginny Thomas has joined the classy crowd taking potshots at the Parkland kids.

Here’s a bunch of whining assholes I don’t want to hear from: Clintonistas are upset that James Comey is getting positive attention, claim he should be apologizing, not hawking a book:

Funny, that’s exactly what I thought about their former boss.

regarding your poll, I want mass, synchronized default on student loans. I realize what this means for the economy, but there is no other way to solve the problem. This country can only fix a crisis… not a looming crisis.
