June 1 Open Thread: Florida Jury Values Black Life at $4

Filed in Delaware, National, Open Thread by on June 1, 2018

Man, I’m glad there’s no racism in America, because if there were it would look really, really racist for a Florida jury to award a black family $4 for a deputy sheriff killing a man in his own garage, on a call responding to a noise complaint for playing music too loud. Don’t worry, though, the judge voided the award, so the family won’t even get that.

I’ve figured out why Trump zigs and zags so much — he’s not distracted by a squirrel, he is the squirrel. And like a squirrel, his latest zag on steel and aluminum tariffs — slapping them on our allies instead of our antagonists — put him directly in the path of oncoming midterm elections and once again leaves Republicans who still care about business confused and fuming.

Also in the Restating the Obvious About Trump Dept., those who have actually been in negotiations with Trump “reveal” that he’s actually a terrible negotiator. As if six bankruptcies, including a few casinos, didn’t make that clear already.

The businesses left in the wake of the sale and breakup of DuPont clearly lack its political heft. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy made that plain by blocking approval of a bill that would have allowed Chemours to resume toxic waste processing at the Chambers Works in Deepwater, N.J. As that plant’s production slowed, DuPont used its now-excess capacity to treat waste from elsewhere, though apparently that practice stopped in 2012. The bill Murphy kicked back to the state Senate — environmentalists had hoped he would veto it, but it’s too valuable a political football for that — would have allowed it to start up again without an environmental review.

Damn, if Xylitol can kill a dog, can it be totally safe for humans?

No known toxicity in most species, but dogs are a different story. If she had read the December 2006 issue of Veterinary Medicine she’d know that:
