America has experienced 12 consecutive days of tornadoes

The extreme weather probably has nothing to do with the fact that the atmosphere now holds 4% more water vapour than it did 40 years ago as a result of increasing temperatures. It is just a coincidence. Nothing to see here folks. Whatever we do we shouldn’t overreact. That would be radical.

Song of the Day 5/28: The Valentinos, “Lookin’ for a Love”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 28, 2019 0 Comments

People know this song from Bobby Womack’s 1974 release, which reached No. 10 on the Hot 100 (No. 1 on the Hot Soul Singles chart), but that wasn’t its first time around the track. That came back in 1962, when it was released by the Valentinos on Sam Cooke’s SAR label. The Valentinos were Cooke’s […]

Cloutier & Delcollo Among Most Endangered R’s In The Country

Failure to provide strong challengers to them would be political malpractice. How endangered are they, you ask? Uh, how about #2 and #6 in the United States when it comes to state senators? Check out this chart: https://twitter.com/BMcM2018/status/1133149608010506240 BTW, if you click on the lefthand chart a couple of times, the print becomes much more […]

The Blatant Corruption That Delaware’s Corporate Laws Enables.  This time, Ukrainian oligarchs using a major financial institution as ‘their own personal piggy bank’. Oh, the secrets we can keep in exchange for some filthy lucre. RWNJ Shoots Up Cops.  What won’t happen: Cops call for stricter gun control measures. What will happen: Calls for death […]

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day

I just re-read the letter Eisenhower prepared in case D-Day failed. He takes full responsibility. Eisenhower was a man in full. He was a member of a generation that saved the world from fascism. The children of that generation thanked their parents by declaring war on the future.

Climate chaos, global oligarchies, student debt bubbles, unaffordable housing, deindustrialization, elimination of worker protections and defined-benefits pensions, deconstruction of public services, etc. Fuck it. If it feels good – do it.

Song of the Day 5/27: War, “Summer”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 27, 2019 0 Comments

Didn’t mean to run another War song so soon, but to quote the lyrics, summertime is here. Yes, I know Americans foolishly start their seasons with a celestial solstices and equinoxes (most other countries don’t), but I ascribe to a more commercial definition. It’s not so true anymore, but in my youth Boardwalk businesses opened […]

Biden Strategy: Stay Out Of The Public Eye? Can it possibly work long-term? How The Squid Saved Rhode Island.  What bottom-feeder could be Delaware’s salvation? The requisite corruption we’ve already got. More Census Rethuggery–Undercount Criminals.  They’re trying to buy themselves 10 more years by rigging the census. They’ll probably succeed. Places That Instagram Users Have […]

Gallows Construction On Schedule

Gallows Construction On Schedule

Aided by a craven GOP and an inept Democratic opposition, Donald Trump has collected unprecedented powers. Most recently he has given his AG and defense lawyer, Bill Barr, blanket authority to “access and declassify any and all classified information from the country’s dozen and a half intelligence agencies in his quest to “investigate the investigators” […]

Song of the Day 5/26: The Little Darlings, “Little Bit O’ Soul”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 26, 2019 1 Comment

Every once in a while I learn that a hit song that I thought was original is actually a cover. That’s the case here. The song was a hit in 1967 but was written in 1964 by English songwriters John Carter and Ken Lewis, who a decade later had a hit with “Beach Baby,” the […]

Democrats in Disarray, Delaware Division

Filed in Delaware by on May 26, 2019 12 Comments

After playing Charlie Brown with the football again on gun control legislation, Delaware progressives are grumbling so loud Matt Bittle of the State News heard them. His story carries a classic Dems-in-disarray headline: “Split Over Gun Control Roils Delaware Democrats” But the Democrats aren’t actually in disarray. They’re just beholden to unions, which in Delaware […]

AEW Threatens the McMahon Empire. Having been a fan of the game of human chess known as pro rasslin’, I bought the All Elite Wrestling pay-per-view last night. It rivaled the top New Japan cards I’ve seen and blew away anything WWE has done since Austin and the Rock reigned. Bleeping great!  And talk about […]

Highlands Bunker – E16 – They’re Our Neighbors

Ed Note: I think Highlands Bunker is at its best when REV sits down with other like-minded activists and knits the whole fucking thing together. I haven’t listened to this yet, but I think this is going to be one of those.

Listen Here > Highlands Bunker – E16 – They’re Our Neighbors

Activists Stephanie Herron and Maria Beauchamp join RE Vanella in the bunker to talk about Puerto Rico, Southbridge, the plastic bag ban, and how we all have the responsibility to take both personal and collective action to change the world.

Song of the Day 5/25: Blues Image, “Ride Captain Ride”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 25, 2019 7 Comments

This band was a true one-hit wonder. Originally from Florida, Blues Image moved to Los Angeles in 1969 and released one album before 1970’s “Open,” which included their only hit, written by guitarist/vocalist Mike Pinera and keyboard player Skip Konte. It reached No. 4 and was one of the songs of the summer that year. […]
