DL Democratic Debate Open Thread: Weds., June 26, 2019
Tonight’s participants are Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke, Amy Klobuchar, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Julian Castro, Tim Ryan, Bill DeBlasio, and Jay Inslee.

OK, I’ll start. If the primary were held today, I’d vote for Elizabeth Warren. Having said that, I think she needs to shine tonight. She is generally regarded as the star of this first debate, and if she doesn’t meet expectations, she could be taken down a notch or two.
If she does well, it could establish her as THE progressive horse in this race depending, of course, on how Bernie does tomorrow night.
OK, Delaney sucks. Entrepreneur blah blah blah.
Elizabeth Warren is KILLING it. I know I’m biased, but she knows how to frame her points in a compelling and understandable way.
I think Booker is having a good night. Same for Castro, although he hasn’t had as much chance to talk.
Don’t think Klobuchar is doing particularly well. Not answering the questions she is asked.
She’ll probably throw something at one of her aides over it.
We, or at least I, don’t need her flaming moderation.
Chuck Todd fucking sucks. He’s so time-obsessed that he’s not listening to the answers and not giving the respondents a chance to answer.
He was a number-cruncher, not a journalist. They never should have promoted him.
Man, Klobuchar is weak. I think the plug will be pulled soon on her campaign.
Biggest Winner: Julian Castro. I can see him at least as the VP candidate.
Biggest Loser: Amy Klobuchar. Why would anyone support her?
Winners: Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker.
Losers: Beto O’Rourke, Bill DeBlasio.
Marginal Winner: Jay Inslee. He’s right on a lot of issues. I’d like to see him in the cabinet.
The absolute worst: Tie: Tim Ryan and John Delaney. Oh, and Chuck Todd.
Whaddayathink?
Tim Ryan – Ouch. He looked like Beaker from the Muppets all night, waiting for the lab to explode. Then he blows it up himself when he implies that the Taliban attacked the US on 9/11.
But I thought Beto pretty much nailed his own coffin the rest of the way shut as well. At this point I’m assuming they are just looking to substantially thin the herd. And those two are my first two cuts. That’s not to say that I like or agree with the other eight necessarily, I just think those two stood out in terms of dropping the ball.
And I’m biased towards Warren to begin with. But it did seem like that whole event was tilted in her favor. At some points it felt like the other nine were hand-picked just to make her look good. I almost feel like she’s a starting QB in the final pre-season game. Just get her into the locker room after the first quarter so she doesn’t get injured before the games start to matter.
If the deep state was that good Clinton would have won.
