Democratic Debate 2 – Day 2 Results

Filed in National by on July 31, 2019

This night was a little more fight oriented, but there was still a lot to like about the Democratic candidates. The moderators sucked again. (“Can you guarantee raising taxes won’t hurt the economy?” that was an actual question) All GOP frames all the time. Here is my take on the winners and losers:

Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet He is only included on the strength os one viral anti-Trump video. Under the bright lights, he is nothing more than terrible centrism defended poorly. Drop out already.

Former Vice President Joe Biden Joe actually did a pretty good job. despite the fact that Bill de Blasio tried to make a cottage industry out of attacking, him.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio When he wasn’t trying to be the guy who broke Biden, he had some great thing to say. He screwed up his priorities so badly even Joe Biden commented on it.

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker Like de Blasio, Booker saw beating up Joe as a way to be internet famous tomorrow. Again, it is a shame because he makes a great case when he isn’t pandering to Twitter.

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro I like Castro. He didn’t get very much traction tonight though.

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard She had it out for Harris in the way de Blasio had it out for Biden, Maybe it was all factual, but not a great look. Good ads during breaks.

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand As much as I don’t like her she got in a good jab at Trump, and I love jabs at Trump.

California Sen. Kamala Harris Her attacks on Biden didn’t seem as strident or forced as de Blasio and Booker’s attacks. She is about to be a front runner and has the countenance of someone who is a front runner.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee He won.

Businessman Andrew Yang I want to hear more about his guaranteed income plans.

I think that Harris had a pretty bad night. Her record as AG of California is a ripe target, Gabbard hammered her on it, and she had trouble defending that record. She even seemed off her feed when confronting Biden on the crime bill.

I wish that Warren was on the stage. She would have destroyed Biden on healthcare.

Oh, and Inslee has, HAS to be appointed as Climate Czar.

My faves tonight were Castro and Booker, neither of whom got enough time to talk.

  2. Jason330 says:

So… are Dems closer to beating Trump now, or further away? I’m seriously asking.

  3. El Somnambulo says:

I think they get closer every day as long as Trump doubles down on racism. Even if the D’s can’t galvanize the minority vote, Trump is doing it for them.

  4. RSE says:

After being savaged by the rest of the field, I think Biden still pulled it off. Kamala was exposed for being an uncaring cop so I think she is done, and I think her attacks on Sleepy Joe have shown us that she will not be the VP choice.
There is a missing piece to this chess match, and it could be the most important piece . I don’t think Joe plans on completely finishing his first term if he wins and I think that is his strategy for luring the missing chess piece( let’s just call it the queen) into this game.

There will be no hard feelings when it comes time to beat Trump. I don’t like Joe at the top of the ticket, but a Biden/Harris ticket would be a strong ticket.

    • MikeM2784 says:

Michelle isn’t going to do it. I think we all need to accept that.

      • Alby says:

Michelle who? Obama? Why would you want her, because she has a famous last name?

This is the same kind of pipe dreaming that impels people to tell Beto O’Rourke to run against Cornyn, a race he would almost certainly lose, which is why he isn’t running it.

When you follow politics as if it were a sport, it’s easy to forget they’re real, actual people who have their own motives and goals that don’t align with your dreams.

    • Alby says:

Sleepy Joe? Maybe you should stop reading what the POSUS (piece of shit of the US) tweets and study reality instead. He didn’t look sleepy to me, and I dislike him intensely.

  5. Alby says:

These predictions are noted, and if they’re wrong, you will be duly mocked.

    • RSE says:

Why would Tulsi Gabbard single out Kamala Harris for attack in such a specific manner, unless she was aligning with Joe?…I’m going to hedge my chances of mockery and pick Gabbard as well.

      • Alby says:

So you’re predicting a Biden/Gabbard ticket? I think you could get pretty good odds somewhere online if you’re serious.

  6. Alby says:

I didn’t see the whole thing — I checked out as soon as I heard “Mueller” — but I did not hear Biden answer a single question. He responded to them, but never answered one with anything but the kind of polito-babble that makes people hate politicians and vote for Trump as an antidote. But he was combative, so he “won.”

America deserves to die, if only for its wrong-headed method of choosing its leaders.
