Trump Wants Schools ‘Opened ASAP’ After Watching Fox News Segment
“Schools in our country should be opened ASAP. Much very good information now available,” Donald Trump tweeted on the eve of Memorial Day as the U.S. coronavirus death toll approached 100,000. He tagged both @FoxNews and host Steve Hilton because the “very good information” the president of the United States was receiving and passing onto the American people came directly from that Sunday night show on Fox.
“Get on with it and reopen schools now before you do even more needless damage!” Hilton urged on his broadcast shortly before Trump’s tweet. He proceeded to rail against “stupid regulations” like “totally pointless” temperature checks and “completely arbitrary social distancing rules.”
Steve Hilton is a Fox News talking head who has had Trump’s ear for a while now.
Fox News host Steve Hilton aired a segment chastising Fauci as an out-of-touch elitist who has an “easy” time overreacting to coronavirus because “he’ll still have a job at the end of this, whatever happens.” Hilton’s argument was that “our ruling class and their TV mouthpieces” like Fauci “can afford an indefinite shutdown, working Americans can’t, they’ll be crushed by it.” Trump soon echoed Hilton’s main point that “the cure is worse than the disease.”
Ah, the ol “cure is worse than the disease” canard. To anyone who makes that statement, don’t be vague, please put some numbers and faces to that assertion. Let’s see, round numbers 100,000 deaths over 1.7 MM cases…..6% mortality? Population 325 MM (let’s take half that), 162 MM. Soooo, 9.7 MM+ (million) deaths of, mostly but not limited to, the older and infirmed is OK by you? If so, please make sure your listeners and electorate know the numbers you are willing to live with and see if they agree. Send a white paper to the AARP so they can get their members on board too.
BTW, it took us,what 4 months to get to 100,000 +/-? If the final number is 9 MM, then we haven’t even started down the road. Anyone that thinks things will just return to normal if we wish it hard enough has no clue what kind of societal dynamics will be at play when the news is reporting deaths in the millions and we get a double whammy of influenza. The skittish panicky human animal will be at full freak out at that point and no one is going to go to a restaurant, vacation, movie theater, concert, hair dresser, office building, you-name-it.
But by all means, go with the Sweden approach. One of the countries with a higher death rate per million people that we have, Fun fun fun.
