Song of the Day 1/14: Dandy Livingstone, “Rudy, a Message to You”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on January 14, 2021

Most rock fans know this song because The Specials reached No. 10 in the UK with a cover in 1979. This is the original rocksteady version by Jamaican-born British singer Dandy Livingstone. He moved to England in the late ’60s and recorded more than a dozen albums between 1967, when “Rudy, a Message to You” was released, and 1980, when he moved to full-time record production.

Here’s the cover by the Specials, who turned the title around to put Rudy at the end. It features Cuban-born trombonist Rico Rodgriguez, who played on the original recording as well.

Depending on your definition of “cleared,” #cancelled singer/songwriter Ryan Adams has reportedly been cleared of criminal charges in an accusation of underage sexting.

    • Alby says:

I have never understood sexting. It amounts to saying, “Send me something I’ll be able to blackmail you with.”

      • Jason330 says:

That should be the dictionary definition of sexting.

        • Ben says:

Savvy sexters (and people showing off their drugs) will use stuff like Snapchat or other apps that delete the message or photo soon after opening….. but most people aren’t savvy.

Man, I like that Dandy Livingstone version.
