DL Open Thread 1/18/21: Biden’s Looming War on Republican Mendacity and Stupidity & Happy MLK Day

Filed in National by on January 18, 2021

The Delaware Senate Republicans who refused to congratulate Biden and Harris are awful, but the statement on why they voted against a simple bit of civility and decency is appalling beyond measure.  It has the hallmarks of being written by the very appalling creep, Anthony Delcollo.   It is meant to signal that Democrats interested in governing and proper order will find only hatred and bitterness if they expect to work with Republicans.  I think we have to the votes, and I hope we have the political will  to utterly ignore these fucking assholes. They are sorely in need of being judged by the content of thier character.

Why 6 Delaware Republicans refused to congratulate, express support for Joe Biden

This is a good companion to that Delaware story.   Ultimately the American experiment in self-government comes down to people having a bit of character.

The DE GOP just nominated a candidate for the United States Senate who was most recently seen claiming to have been tear gassed during a violent insurrection against the United States. They can go sit on a stick for all anyone should care.

To run that piece of trash as their flagship candidate for national office and then spout nonsense about bipartisanship and civility, as if anyone should give a damn what they think, is remarkable.

On the vaccine administration. Once a vial seal is broken and the vial is open all 10 doses must be used within 6 hours.

So take an event like Saturday at Dover DMV. 2 people administering shots in each of the 6 bays. If the scheduled 1A folks who come through aren’t a multiple of 10 each vial will have doses remaining that must be given or the vial must be thrown away.

So these doses should be stuck into anyone who consents. Random passerby. Anyone. This is good and benefits everyone broadly.

Because like teachers know this they turn up near the end of each event. It’s a roll of the dice.

Nothing untoward about it. I hope everyone gets it as quickly as possible.

Funny how, according to Delaware Republicans, they deserve the kind of consideration that their permanent-minority-status party routinely refuses to give Democrats on a national level.

    Every Republican accusation is projection.

    • El Somnambulo says:

In Delaware, they are able to get judgeships that their minority status would otherwise deny them, thanks to John Carney. The Party is officially anti-democratic and delusional.

Why should we have judges who are anti-democratic or delusional?

Re Industrial Decline: We can no longer fight and win something like W.W. II, the genius of upper management has moved production out of the country and like so many other things production has gone to Asia. Penny wise and pound foolish in the extreme. And let’s take this time to remember we have not won a war since W.W. II despite fighting a crap ton of endless petty and foolish wars.

    • jason330 says:

I suppose the upside to not being able to fight a full blown war is that we will never again fight a full-blown war. Getting rid of the endless petty and foolish wars would be nice as well.

  5. John Kowalko says:

I had this circulated on Friday for sponsors. Hope that all House members will sign on and support.

    Good Morning Representatives,

Please find attached a House Resolution sponsored by Rep. Kowalko.

The horrific acts of violent insurrection perpetrated by a criminal mob at our nation’s Capitol on Wednesday January 6th was a moment in American history that will never and should never be forgotten. While the vulnerability of buildings and structures may have been exposed the invulnerability of American idealism withstood the moment.

As elected public servants we cannot allow or encourage such atrocities by remaining silent. We must raise our voices and demand justice on behalf of the lawmakers and staff who were attacked, including the law-enforcement officers who bravely defended the Capitol, and on behalf of the United States of America and its people.

I’m asking all of you, my colleagues, to sign on as sponsors to the attached resolution that expresses our solidarity and demands accountability from all.

    Representative John Kowalko

    Synopsis:
This House Resolution affirms the House of Representative’s respect for elections and the peaceful transfer of government that is a central hallmark of our country’s democracy. As such, the House Resolution also expresses the House of Representatives’ support for the impeachment of Donald J. Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors for violating his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed.

If you would like to be considered a co-sponsor of this resolution, please respond by 5pm Monday, January 18th

Anti-Vaxxers Got $850,000 In PPP Funds From Trump.

“Five prominent anti-vaccine organizations that have been known to spread misleading information about the coronavirus received more than $850,000 in loans from the federal Paycheck Protection Program, raising questions about why the government is giving money to groups actively opposing its agenda and seeking to undermine public health during a critical period.”

I hope that the Biden Administration seeks to claw back funds from recipients who were not eligible for them.

Good news: Trump’s Census Director Resigns:

    • Headball says:

I’m starting to lose count of the resignations… Two more days but who’s counting?

      • The good news about this resignation is that his term wasn’t scheduled to end on Election Day. I think he was facing a bleepload of congressional inquiries, so he headed for the exit. This could have a genuine impact on the census, which he was trying to help Trump rig.

        • Headball says:

Common sense prevails occasionally I guess. He knew he was in trouble. Good riddance.

          • meatball says:

He should still be called to testify and held accountable. One of the biggest issues I have with the Obama/Joe presidency is that they never held anyone accountable for the great recession…..no one. I have plenty of other issues as well, but that was a big one. People knew shit was fucked up and did nothing and were not held accountable. I would lose my job in a second if I pulled the shenanigans that lead to that. I would love to see an era of accountability in America. Not necessarily law suits, but people called to explain their actions like Mrs. Clinton was for the stupidest shit ever (BENGHAZI). Call those fuckers to testify.
