Song of the Day 6/28: Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, “The Mexican Shuffle”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 28, 2023 1 Comment

I’m so old I remember when Mexicans weren’t reviled — in fact, they were considered fun and exotic. Case in point: Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. Though best-known now for founding of A&M Records with Jerry Moss, Boomers will remember Alpert as a trumpeter whose Latin-sounding instrumentals were everywhere in the early to mid-60s. […]

The Headline:  EVERYTHING FALLS APART IN HOUSE. We (well, I) first noted the marathon break between the recess for Caucus and the time the House eventually went back into session (3:15 to 7:45) last evening. We (well, I) noted that the House site changed the scheduled hours of session 4 times during the course of the […]

Trump’s 12 point defense of the tape & Sean Hannity says a taped confession made while bragging about committing crimes during fresh crimes “doesn’t prove a thing”

Filed in National by on June 27, 2023 0 Comments

I’m sure we’ll also hear how this is Trump’s genius laying a trap for his enemies. SEAN HANNITY (HOST): You get leaks of these tapes that we played last night on Hannity involving Donald Trump, which, by the way, don’t prove a thing as far as I’m concerned. You know, but if you’re a […]

Biden on the economy: Come at me, Bro!

Rather than cower in the corner and semi-endorse GOP talking points by trying to appeal to chicken livered centrists and other moderate dipshits, Biden is ready to fight. CHICAGO (WLS) — President Joe Biden is coming to Chicago on Wednesday for a reception and address, according to the White House. In the afternoon, Biden will […]

Song of the Day 6/27: Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Gimme Back My Bullets”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 27, 2023 0 Comments

This one is for Cabela’s, though it doesn’t sound as if they’re all that concerned about all that missing inventory, does it? The title track to Lyrnyrd Skyrnyrd’s 1976 LP, its fourth but first without Al Kooper producing. It failed to chart as a single, but the album went gold in the wake of the […]

Far Right Wing Parties Notch Big WIns in Greece – The Climate Change we don’t want

Filed in National by on June 27, 2023 0 Comments

We’re used to seeing floods, icebergs calving, and 110 degree temps – but another sign of climate change we’ve ignored is the success of right wing parties in Europe. Conservative and far-right politicians saw significant wins in the Greek election this past weekend, victories that could mean the continuation of harsh immigration policies and a renewed […]

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on June 26, 2023 10 Comments

No, not nationwide.  From one store in Delaware.  Which is what happens when a store has the ammo right out on the sales floor. Cabela’s is under investigation for lax shoplifting prevention after half a million rounds of ammunition was stolen from its Christiana Mall store, the Delaware Department of Justice said in a statement […]

McBride Announcement opens the door to a hard fought and bitter primary battle among Republicans

I did something I never do.  Egged on by DL commenter Andrew C, I read the comments under the Sarah McBride article on Fox News.   The disgusting fucktrocity ™ of the comments confirmed to me the the DEGOP is going to tear itself apart as the worst scum imaginable vie for the opportunity to collect all of the the money that will be available to McBride’s challenger.

Make no mistake – they will not be running for the opportunity to represent Delaware in congress.  They will be running to separate dumbfuck wingnuts from their money.

Song of the Day 6/26: Elton John, “Rocket Man” live at Glastonbury 2023

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 26, 2023 1 Comment

Sir Elton John closed this year’s Glastonbury music festival with what he billed as his final UK concert. He went out with a bang. “Rocket Man” was his final song, and if his voice has declined since his hit-making heyday, his piano work was as energetic as ever. He extends the ending so long it […]

Remember That ‘Self-Sustaining’ Port Of Wilmington?

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on June 26, 2023 7 Comments

Looks like Jeffrey Bullock and the self-anointed ‘grown-ups’ are gonna stick us with a, wait for it, $100 million price tag. Oh, and try to hide it from us.  From the News-Journal: Delaware will get less money from the Port of Wilmington following its failed deal that privatized the port and taxpayers could be on […]
