BREAKING: Supreme Court In The Bag For Trump

Filed in Featured, National by on February 28, 2024

They’ve inexplicably  (well, not really) agreed to hear Trump’s bullshit claim that he’s immune from prosecution for any crimes he committed as President.

Took them forever to rule on this, then pushed back their hearing on this case until April.

Make no mistake, the Supreme Court has politicized this case:

It’s all in the timing, and the Supreme Court has pushed this back to the point where a verdict before the election is now unlikely.

It’s a miscarriage of justice.  Oh well, at least now we know for sure.

  1. All the legal talking heads spoke with confidence that Trump’s appeal to the Supreme Court was likely to be dismissed because it was so ‘batshit crazy’.

Now that the Court has taken it, can any of those talking heads say with any assurance that the three Trump appointees won’t find some way to support his appeal? Joining, of course, Thomas and Alito?

  2. OK, one more thing before I try to stop fixating about this:

Special Counsel Jack Smith had filed for the Supreme Court to hear this issue before the hearing in front of the 3-member panel of the DC Court of Appeals.

The Supreme Court turned down that request. Following a unanimous ruling from the Appeals Court, the Supreme Court dithered and THEN agreed to take it. They are clearly in the bag for Trump regardless of when they rule. They’ve essentially sliced at least three months off the window to try the case.

  3. OK, one more thing–why the FUCK did they decide not to hear this case until April?

Bush v. Gore was decided in four days.

    Ian Millhiser says it bluntly:

“Simply put, Wednesday’s order is a disaster for anyone hoping that Trump may face trial before the November election. And, because the nominal reason for this order is to give the justices more time to decide if the president is completely above the law, this decision raises serious doubts about whether this Court can be trusted to oversee Trump-related cases in a nonpartisan manner.”

  5. Jason says:

Maybe this helps Biden in the long run? I mean what if MAGAts see this and think, HEY, Trump is trying to be King! What the heck?!

    Nevermind.

    • I think it WILL help Biden in November.

But the Court clearly put their finger on the scale on behalf of Trump. Especially via delaydelaydelay.

Plus, Biden might not win in November.

  6. Alby says:

Turns out packing the courts works! Thanks, Coons!

  7. puck says:

I thought “presidential immunity” was a DOJ memo. How is it a constitutional issue for the Supreme Court?

  8. Arthur says:

So if all presidents have full immunity during their presidency than if trumps plan accidently blew up ala Wagner Group biden would have full immunity, correct?

  9. Delawarelefty says:

Regime change at the Supreme Court should be a Democratic goal in this year’s election…..Both impeachment and/or expansion would serve that end.

    • puck says:

It should be a goal but not sure if it should be campaign plank. How does “pack the court” or “impeach justices” poll as a campaign issue? I think it would turn off more voters than it inspires.

Also if Republicans take the Senate as expected, how many new justices do you want confirmed next term?

The way to change the court is to vote Democratic on all ballots for a generation.

    • Jason says:

Sure. Can you name a single elected Dem who has the heart for that kind of fight?

    • Delawarelefty says:

If we can win big in November, we should not be strapped with a Republican packed court who pull legal decrees right out of their butt.
