North Korea Fires On South Korea

Filed in International by on November 23, 2010

Last night North Korea opened artillery fire on a South Korean island. As of writing this, at least 2 South Korean soldiers have died and several South Korean civilians were injured.

A spokesman for South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korean shells had started falling in the waters off the island of Yeonpyeong at 1434 (0534 GMT).

At least 50 landed directly on the island, most hitting a South Korean military base there.

The South’s military immediately fired back some 80 shells in self-defence, Col Lee Bung-woo added.

A resident on the island told the AFP news agency that dozens of houses were damaged by the barrage, while television pictures showed plumes of smoke rising above the island.

This is not the first provocation by North Korea. Earlier this year North Korea sank a South Korean war ship. Just last week North Korea announced a second Uranium enrichment facility as well. North Korea avoided sanctions in the first incident because of China. Will China continue to allow North Korea to act against its neighbors?

I think this is a good predator drone application. The problem with north Korea is they populace is so uneducated and brainwashed… they are like Fox viewers. They are fed false reality after false reality to keep the powerful in power. An all out war with that country would kill millions of people who have no idea who they are fighting or why.
The problem of course is dealing with the people after the regime is toppled. At least Iraqis didn’t see Saddam as the messiah.

    Sigh, oh well, let’s roll

It’s our God given duty to go kill those bastards now that they have no respect for democracy.

Our police state is better than their police state, anyway.

It’s obvious a “no confidence” vote on Kim JOng is in the works … Let’s hope it passes…

There’s no *vote* in North Korea as we might understand the term.

Of course, Curly and the other schmucks down here blame the whole incident on Obama being weak. And then you have the oxycontin addict claiming that the North Koreans fired a missle off of Catalina Island a few weeks ago. Maybe these hawks would volunteer to go fight another Korean War for us.

  7. I think the far right and far left are converging into one mass of blaming Obama for everything.

And you know what’s heartbreaking about that? It gives the belligerents the space they need to push for the stupidest possible response here. Because the people who can best help give a more measured response some political cover will be bitching at their keyboards instead of doing something useful.

One of the cowboys down here called in to Curly’s show last hour and said that the only person qualified to handle this situation was…. wait

    wait….

    wait….

    Christine O’Donnell.

It is all the fault of the “professional left.” They really “ought to be drug-tested.”

Anyway, a short nuclear winter would finally shut up those pesky “global warming” scientists.

MJ, there is some symmetry in sending COD to deal with Kim Jong Il — she might be on his level of crazy. Which is saying something since there is plenty of Kim Jong Il level crazy in the current GOP. Wonder of Kim Jong Il tells people he is not a witch?

@MJ- that would be one of the “Midnight Cowboys?” maybe buck-toothed Ayotte?

never understood why we went after Iraq when NK was/is crazier and actually HAS weapons of mass destruction. But it’s ok….Iraq had NOTHING to do with oil.
