Filed in National by on June 9, 2011

I feel quite sure that “bank backer” Carper will have plenty of future opportunities to demonstrate his usefulness to Wall Street.

    I LOVE it.
    Screw you Tommy CarpETBAGGer!
You’ll be doing a LOT of knee time genuflecting, asking forgiveness and swearing your FUTURE allegiance to your BANK MASTERS.

I don’t know how Upper New Catle County could have voted that bum Carper into the Senate over Bill Roth after all Roth did for us over the years. I take that back, I do know. Carperbagger gave ’em all he could while governor for two terms, and they paid him back on election day. Well, you all made your bed….

  3. skippertee says:

    Roth? That DOG-FUCKING perverted DRUNK.
He weaved and wobbled for years!
Tell me DOGBERT what made him so special.
That ROTH TAX DODGE. BIG FUCKING DEAL!!!!
    JERK!
His burial spot should be a dog park where they can defecate on his grave.

If the 60 vote rule was not in effect it would have passed. The bill received 54 votes.

Dick Durbin had some GREAT quotes in his speech before the vote. We pay .44 on transactions. The rest of the worlds average is .12 or .13. The charge in Canada? ZERO.

One thing I didnt like was Dick Durbin said there was an excemption for small banks (less than 10 billion) to continure charging higher rates. If its wrong to rob merchants, then its wrong and no one should be doing it.

Is Carper retiring next year? Any wish list for a replacement?

  5. DE Idealist says:

Carper is running for re-election in 2012. Markell and Beau have their eyes on the seat for 2018. So we’ll get either a closet Republican or an awkward, incompetent daddy’s boy. Hopefully someone else emerges by then.

  6. Geezer says:

Don’t know who’s telling you Markell is interested in the Senate. If he were, he wouldn’t have run for governor.

  7. DE Idealist says:

I’ve heard from a number of insiders tht Markell is interested in running for the Senate. I know some on this site
have speculated that he’s got eyes on Iowa for 2012, but Markell winning the nomination is unlikely. He’s too young to hang it up. That leaves a
cabinet position (if The Dems retain the White House), private sector, or the Senate. The House is likely below him, though that position might open up in 2016 as well.

  8. Geezer says:

Are these Markell insiders, or Democratic Party insiders? Because most in the Democratic Party are not privy to what Markell thinks about anything.

He has plenty of money, so he doesn’t need the work. The non-profit sector is as likely a destination as anything you’ve listed, IMHO.

  9. MJ says:

I don’t think that DE Idealist is tuned in to the Markell camp as they claim to be.

  10. DE Idealist says:

This is from Dem insiders, not Markell’s camp. I agree it is just as likely that Markell goes private sector. Allow me to clarify my point, it looks as though Carper is running on last time. It’s 6 years out before anyone would have to start running for that seat, which is a long time, but projecting out, that would mean his seat opens up in 2018. I’m not saying Markell will dedinitely run, but as of right now he and Beau would be the front runners. I wouldn’t be terribly excited about either. I hope someone else emerges.

It’s 6 years out before anyone would have to start running for that seat, which is a long time. 12. Uh, ya know, Markell COULD run for reelection in 2012 and then set his sights on a possible White House run in 2016.

Which is what I think he’s thinking, but it’s pure speculation on my part.

  13. DE Idealist says:

Absolutely speculation from here as well.. I think White House is out of his reach and the Senate is much more realistic.

  14. DE Idealist says:

He doesn’t have the charisma to overcome the fact he’s from a small state.

  15. Jason330 says:

Joe Biden has proven that running for your party’s nomination for President has payoffs even when you don’t win.

If Markell sees himself as Presidential material (and I think he does) he may see see the road to the White House going through the Naval Observatory on Mass Ave.

  16. MJ says:

Then the “Dem insiders” are not tuned into the Markell camp. My guess is that they’re hoping Jack runs for Senate in 2012 so they can handpick the next Governor. We all saw how well that worked in 2008.

  17. anon says:

El som. That was Markells plan all along. Sorry he isnt ready for prime time either. Let him run against Carper! What does he know about foreign policy, no more novices please. As far as Carper, he is going to have lots of splaining to do this election, dont think he thinks this one is a slam dunk. Lets clear the skeltons out of his closet.

  18. anon says:

Markel will have plenty of money to run, his own and all that coming from Israel. If he wants more power he should try the Senate, but the White House, how ridiculous. Thats real ego for ya.

  19. jason330 says:

Oh jeez anon 1:27. Can we just stop the silliness. Carper is going to have a gimme. Let’s agree on that as a given.

  20. DE Idealist says:

MJ, I don’t know of anyone who has allusions that Markell will give up the Governorship to Primary Carper in 2012.While he’s proven he’s not afraid to take on the party, I doubt he has any interest in political suicide.

  21. anon says:

Senator Carper is not going to have a free ride in 2012 for the Senate seat. Instead, Senator Carper will be answering to Delawareans and explaining his self-serving voting record.

  22. anon says:

Oh, c’mon. I’m cutting you guys off. No more booze. Stop poppin’ those pills. Hand in your keys, boyos.

Markell is not going to make a serious run for the White House. You guys are majorly delusional. He might run to get some national exposure and land on someone’s short list for VP, sure. But any Markell for President campaign is going to fall way flat.

Markell has no gimmick, no personal story, no crusade, no single national issue he can ride into D.C. We’re seeing right now in the Romney campaign how well a business-background candidate can do. All Markell’s been so far is the semi-competent governor who replaced an incompetent one. He’s gotten kudos basically because he’s the anti-Minner and can make the trains run on time. Call him the Mike Dukakis of the ’00s.

Remember that the Democratic field in 2016 is going to be wide open, and there are a lot stronger contenders out there than a corporate-friendly policy wonk with a horrible combover. And his chances for the Naval Observatory aren’t much, either. Do you really think any Democratic nominee is going to pick ANOTHER guy from Delaware for second place on the ticket? Come ON.

The White House will flip to the GOP in 2016. That’s almost a guarantee. That’s been the American public’s approach since 1992. Two terms, then flip. The last VP to follow his president into the White House was George H.W. Bush – and we all know how that ended up. Whether people just want a “change,” whether it’s incumbent exhaustion, whether it’s “Hey, let’s let these other guys try something” – the presidency will flip.

The GOP nominee in 2016 will be either Bachmann or Rubio – probably Rubio – with Pawlenty or Huntsman as a running mate for what passes for gravitas. The Democrats will pick … oh, hell, who knows? Sherrod Brown or Martin O’Malley top my list.

  23. MJ says:

John Hickenlooper is at the top of my list for the Dems in 2016.
