Nate Silver gives Romney a 42 percent chance of winning the Iowa caucuses, followed by Ron Paul at 34 percent and Rick Santorum at 20 per cent. The final Des Moines Register poll, which has an impressive track record, indicates a 2 point lead for Romney over Paul. Ezra Klein also sees a Romney win. Howard Dean and Ed Schultz predict a Santorum upset.

  1. Which is more likely today: Andy Reid is fired by the Eagles or Obama makes a recess appointment of Richard Cordray to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?

    Tom Carper reads puck.

A while back I called out Carper for his statement calling for a new nominee after Cordray was filibustered. Carper has now modified his statement ex post facto.

    Before:

“My hope is that the Administration moves quickly to nominate a new director and that we can resolve our differences so that the agency can focus on the job it was designed to do, which is to protect consumers from financial harm.”

    After:

“My hope is that we can resolve our differences so that the agency can focus on the job it was designed to do, which is to protect consumers from financial harm.”

This is way more satisfying than those damn letters he sends back.

  3. So what’s your vote, puck? Jeffrey Laurie has a presser at 2:30.

  4. puck

    I’ll take Andy.

  5. puck, except who reads amended press releases?

    Andy will be let go.

  6. If Romney finishes 1, 2, or 3 in Iowa he takes the nomination.

Carper is becoming a true flip-flopper. Maybe he’ll be Mitt’s running mate.

Rex Ryan promised that his Jets would go to the Super Bowl. They finished 8-8. He’s staying.
Andy assembled a Dream Team. They finished 8-8. I’d say he’s staying too.

  8. I think Andy Reid “resigning” is more likely than Obama making the recess appointment. I don’t think either will happen.

  10. The good guys are 0-2 today. Maybe Newt will win Iowa?

    Anybody but that friggin Carper.

  12. Take this with a “Lucy holding football” warning: “After missing an opportunity Tuesday afternoon to recess appoint Richard Cordray as the head of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the White House has concluded it can go ahead and make the appointment, the Wall Street Journal reports. The appointment could come as early as Wednesday.” From TPM
