Regular Americans Losing Their Political Voice

Using the conservative mantra that Money = Speech, this inforgraphic shows just how much ordinary Americans are being drowned out of the conversation and our Government. Because those with the money can simply buy the policy they want, increasingly, what Americans clearly want to happen is simply not being done.

DISCLOSE Act Vote Tonight

The full name is Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act. It is meant to rebalance the books that have been utterly upended by Citizen's United, allowing unlimited spending by corporations. As specifically allowed for in Justice Kennedy's majority opinion for Citizen's United, nothing stops Congress from asking for greater transparency for those donations.

All Apologies

While the Romney people are demanding apologies from President Obama, the Obama Truth Team send out this video that reminds us all that Romney isn't talking about issues, he is just attacking and making up stuff:

Saturday Open Thread [7.14.12]

It is a nice, rainy Saturday meaning that all of our plants get watered for free for a change. It is also a busy Saturday as pretty much everyone I know in the city is knocking on doors, looking for votes for candidates. And it's Bastille Day! The closest great celebration of this is over at Fairmount Park at the Eastern Penitentiary, featuring a Marie Antoinette hauled off to the guillotine yelling, "Let them eat Tastycakes!" with thousands of Tastycakes launched off into the crowd. Fun!

WHYY Sponsors Wilmington Voter Forums

WHYY will sponsor another round of voter forums designed to let Wilmington voters frame the issues that they want Mayoral candidates to address in an upcoming televised debate. This is NOT a candidate forum, but this is a place where voters can come together to provide input to the kind of questions they want Mayoral candidates to answer. They did this in 2010 in prep ration for televised debates for DE Senate and representative races. Both Pandora and I went to the one held in the city that year and we were impressed with this process and what came out of it. If you have the chance to go, I highly recommend it.
