Governor Markell Declares (Limited) State Of Emergency
Governor Markell orders a mandatory evacuation of coastal areas in all three counties in Delaware as the state prepares for a major hit from Hurricane Sandy. The evacuation order begins at 8pm Saturday, giving residents 24 hours to get out of the storm’s path. All evacuations should be completed by 8pm Sunday. The state expected 50,000 people to be fleeing coastal areas.

I Stand Corrected: Dem Signs to Come Down & More
Earlier, I let my cynicism get the better of me. I should have known better with people like Matt Denn around. I received this email from the Democratic party during the 7 o’clock hour:
We received the email pasted below regarding sign removal in preparation for Hurricane Sandy. The Coordinated Campaign (Carper, Carney, Markell, Denn, Weldin Stewart Campaigns) will be working to remove signs by region, but we need all the help we can get. Stephanie Swain with Matt Denn’s campaign will be coordinating these efforts. Please contact her at stephanie.swain@mattdenn.com to find out more and/or to volunteer.
Not Gonna Happen
I just got a press release from DelDOT that has a lot of good information about storm prep, including road projects that have been postponed due to the impending conflagration (95 @202 will NOT be closed this weekend). Among the suggestions for storm safety was this gem: DelDOT is requesting that political campaigns do what […]

BREAKING: Paul Clark Gone in Less Than 3 Weeks
This was news to me. Apparently it was a surprise to Paul Clark as well. He just found out. But here’s the applicable section from the Delaware Code (Title 9, § 1114):
§ 1114. Vacancy in office.
Whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of County Executive by reason of death, resignation, removal from office or other cause, the President of the County Council shall serve as County Executive until the latter office is filled as a result of an election. If a vacancy in the office of County Executive occurs more than 30 days prior to the date of a primary election in which county officers are nominated, the vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of the term in the next succeeding general election and the County Executive elected in this manner shall take office on the first Tuesday following such election. If a vacancy in the office of County Executive occurs less than 30 days prior to the date of a primary election in which county officers are nominated, the vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of the term by the President of the County Council. If the President of the County Council becomes County Executive, the President’s office as an elected official of the county governing body shall become vacant.
Guess we’d better keep a close eye on Clark to make sure that his limited window runs out with a minimum of chicanery.
Lest There Be Any Doubt…
I am not going back to Dover or anywhere else to work for the General Assembly or, for that matter, state government.
In the past day, we at DL have had to moderate allegations from one poster that I’ve cut some sort of secret deal with candidates for me to get a job back in Dover. Not because of the allegations, which are false, but b/c this serial outer once again outs where I work.
This person is not affiliated with the Cloutier campaign, the moribund DeLuca campaign, or any other campaign. He simply blames me, along with numerous other people in my community, for his own situation. Which is not true, but that’s neither here nor there. He’s done this many times before, and he’s been moderated for it.
My statement should be obvious to anyone who has read my work for the last four years or so. I’ve held nothing back as far as my opinions regarding what I believe is good and bad in state government. I am neither delusional enough to believe that what I’ve written would be forgiven/forgotten, nor masochistic enough to want to work in that environment.
