Highlands Bunker E117 – Radical Reimagination

REV talks with some folks who have an imaginary friend named Jesus…
is what I would say if he was speaking with white evangelicals.

As he is speaking with Central Delaware NAACP President Fleur McKendall and Network Delaware organizer Tyeisha Grier on the role of religion and solidarity in organizing I guess I should reign in the scoffing disrespect.   As usual, Delaware’s foremost public intellectual gets to the crux.

Cuomo Aides Rewrote Report On Nursing Home Covid Deaths To Hide The Scope Of The Tragedy.  You know, so he could go on TV and pretend to be the Anti-Trump, the Competent One:

Top aides to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo were alarmed: A report written by state health officials had just landed, and it included a count of how many nursing home residents in New York had died in the pandemic.

The number — more than 9,000 by that point in June — was not public, and the governor’s most senior aides wanted to keep it that way. They rewrote the report to take it out, according to interviews and documents reviewed by The New York Times.

The extraordinary intervention, which came just as Mr. Cuomo was starting to write a book on his pandemic achievements, was the earliest act yet known in what critics have called a monthslong effort by the governor and his aides to obscure the full scope of nursing home deaths.

Sounds like ‘alternative facts’ to me.

Speaking Of Male Toxicity–North Dakota Legislator Expelled:

The litany of complaints that female colleagues had filed against North Dakota state Rep. Luke Simons (R) filled out a 14-page report released last week: Constant unwanted advances. Requests to run his hand through an intern’s hair. Harassing a pregnant Republican House member so often that she covertly changed desks.

In response, the state’s House of Representatives took the unprecedented step on Thursday of expelling Simons — the first time in its history the procedure has ever been used, the Bismark Tribune reported.

The chamber voted 69-25 to boot Simons, meeting the two-thirds majority needed. Rep. Emily O’Brien, Simons’s Republican colleague who moved desks after what she described as a pattern of “disturbing” harassment, urged the chamber to listen to the women who spoke out.

‘It’s Not Fair!’.  Another ‘victim’ of the Capitol Riots.  I can sympathize. I mean, you would think that he was some black guy caught with a joint rather than merely a violent insurrectionist with a lethal taser strapped to his hip.  Here’s yet another ‘victim’.  Why oh why hasn’t Trump come to his rescue?

The Pandemic’s Existential Threat To Black-Owned Businesses.  It’s tougher for them to meet Federal criteria for assistance.  That should change.

Elaine Chao–Criminal. IG’s report was tossed in the trash by Bill Barr.  Which reminds me–is McConnell plotting an early exit?  Bill would prohibit Kentucky’s Democratic governor from naming a temporary successor should a seat become open.

The Evangelical Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste:

Evangelicalism in America, however, has come to be defined by its anti-intellectualism. The style of the most popular and influential pastors tend to correlate with shallowness: charisma trumps expertise; scientific authority is often viewed with suspicion. So it is of little surprise that American evangelicals have become vulnerable to demagoguery and misinformation. In a classic study, “Anti-Intellectualism in American Life,” the historian Richard Hofstadter, writing in the nineteen-sixties, during the aftermath of the excesses of McCarthyism, examined certain attitudes and ideas in the United States that had converged to produce a “resentment and suspicion of the life of the mind and of those who are considered to represent it.” He saw American evangelicalism as a chief culprit. In 1994, Mark Noll, a historian who was then a professor at Wheaton College in Illinois, the preëminent evangelical liberal-arts institution, published “The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind.” In the opening sentence of the book’s first chapter, he writes, “The scandal of the evangelical mind is there is not much of an evangelical mind.”

Who Were The Falsehood Super-Spreaders?  Yep, Trump and his minions, plus a few others.

Croda’s Polluting Again, With DNREC’s Blessing.  You know, the ‘greater good’, which never seems to consider the health of minority communities.  I’m sure it’s within ‘acceptable’ limits, except for those who live there.

Ha!

When are white men ever going to catch a break in this country?

Richard Barnett, the Arkansas man charged with breaking into Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and stealing her mail during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, threw a tantrum during a virtual court hearing on Thursday, yelling at the judge and his own lawyers that it wasn’t “fair” that he was still in jail weeks after his arrest.

DEGOP Leader says – No Gays Allowed in DEGOP

The de facto leader of the DEGOP stated clearly the DEGOP’s policy on the inclusion of gay people in the Delaware Republican Party. https://dailycaller.com

Failed Republican Delaware Senate candidate Lauren Witzke said Monday that gay conservatives should not be allowed to participate in Republican Party politics.

“Did I stutter?” Witzke tweeted in response to former Ambassador to Germany and acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who asked whether she believed gay conservatives should be welcomed into the Republican Party.

Joe Biden’s loose lips are going to cost the Democrats the Neanderthal vote. He blasted the states of the New Confederacy — white supremacy isn’t just for the the South anymore — for their “Neanderthal thinking” they demonstrated in lifting Covid restrictions because they find caring about other people’s lives tiresome, and I can just hear that Geico caveman saying, “That is so condescending.” There’s no evidence that Neanderthals were any dumber than Homo sapiens, other than they’re no longer around, and really, can you blame them? Once we showed up, there went the neighborhood.

Today is the day some QAnon Qrazies think Donald Trump will be sworn in as president, so the House <a href="cancelled its session today in deference to a warning by U.S. Capitol Police of a “possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group.” If someone ever tells you the U.S. has become a Third World country, you should point out that in Third World countries people who try to overthrow the government are executed, so in some regards they have their shit together more than we do.

Today’s Right Wing Freak-Out concerns the 30-year-dead Dr. Seuss. His copyright holders announced that six out of his scores of books would no longer be published or sold because they contain “hurtful images,” and RWNJs reacted as if someone had drawn a mustache on the Mona Lisa. I have three kids, so I have several of the discontinued titles, but considering Amazon was listing “On Beyond Zebra” for $3,585, I might not have them for much longer.

A global warming solution might be brewing in Indonesia, where the Sinabung volcano burped hot ash 16,000 feet into the sky the other day. Geologists think that’s just the fanfare for a bigger eruption that could come in days, weeks or 400 more years.

Finally, a handful of teachers at a private school in Missouri took a turn in the social media dunk tank for spelling out the word “coons” during a game of human Scrabble. I guess nobody’s going to buy the explanation that they’re merely huge fans of bipartisanship in Congress and they were simply honoring Chris Coons, the patron saint of pointless compromise.

The floor’s yours.

Coons: PRESIDENT BIDEN IS SOMEONE WHO WILL WORK ACROSS THE AISLE. I WAS ENCOURAGED TO HEAR SENATOR CASSIDY SAY REGARDLESS OF THE OUTCOME OF THIS STIMULUS BILL, THIS COVID RESPONSE BILL, HE IS GOING TO WORK ACROSS THE AISLE. I HAVE BEEN A GOOD FRIEND AND PARTNER WITH HIM WORKING ON NATIONAL SERVICE ISSUES, FOR EXAMPLE. I THINK PRESIDENT BIDEN CHALLENGED US TO DO TWO THINGS — DELIVER RELIEF TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR THE ONGOING PANDEMIC AND RECESSION CAUSED BY IT, AND FIND WAYS TO WORK ACROSS THE AISLE. THE URGENCY OF THE ISSUE MEANS HE IS MOVING AHEAD AND WE ARE MOVING AHEAD WITH THIS $1.9 TRILLION BILL THAT HAS A BROAD SUPPORT AMONGST VOTERS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS AND PARTIES.

How do we beat Kevin Hensley (and other so-called moderate Republicans)?  I’m seriously asking. For me, the simple fact that Hensley is a Republican is enough. Turns out, I’m not normal.  We have about 20 months, so what’s the game plan?

This is huge -> President Biden announces we will now have enough vaccine supply for 300 million Americans by the end of May.  This is 2 months earlier than last estimates, and possible because Biden is using the Defense Production Act to have companies help produce the J&J vaccine.

And now the punch line:

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas ends mask mandate after 8 months, becoming largest state to lift order intended to prevent spread of COVID-19.   Idiots.

Hannity Moans – Rich people flee America if “ultra-millionaire tax act” goes into effect

All I can say is good luck finding a better tax haven, even if 2% of net worth above $50 million is taxed.

SEAN HANNITY (HOST): It may sound great to a lot of Americans, the idea that Elizabeth Warren is now proposing a wealth tax, which probably means that Joe Biden will do it, because he’s now basically taking dictation now from everybody in the Democratic Party.

Alright, wealth tax, two percent net value of assets [above $50 million] of the wealthiest people in America, “We build a future for all of our kids by investing” — taxing — “in opportunity,” she said. It’d be — you know, contending that the small tax would generate at least 3 trillion dollars. Now, if you’re not going to be subject to that tax, you’re probably saying “great.” Here’s the problem.

If Elizabeth Warren does this in the country, do you not think that the people that got rich, most of which got rich by not being stupid and working hard, I don’t know many people that were born with a silver spoon in their mouth, I just don’t know that crowd. I — I didn’t grow up with that crowd. So, I’m just — I’m looking at this, and they think it’s great.

The bill’s going to be dubbed the “ultra-millionaire tax act.”

Okay, what do you think — what is happening that nobody is paying attention to? People are leaving the country. They are giving up their citizenship. That’s the next thing that’s going to happen.

Notice how Hannity omits the “above $50 million”

The current poll question is a trick
