Coons tries to give his GOP buddies in the Senate some props – it doesn’t go well

I’m surprised I missed this episode of Coons trying to have it both ways. Coons, pathetic as usual, asserts that there are some fine people in the GOP who know Trump is guilty as fuck, but they have legitimate concern about being re-elected if they cross Trump. Insert> *sad trombone cue*

Just pitiful.

The real Biden scandal

The real Biden scandal

…is how Joe Biden worked hand in glove with George W. Bush to drag the country into Bush’s vanity war in Iraq. Get him in front of Congress to testify about that.

Song of the Day 12/9: Nick Winters (Bill Murray), “Star Wars”

Filed in National by on December 9, 2019 3 Comments

There’s no avoiding it, I’m afraid; it’s coming around again. No, not Christmas — Star Wars. The neverending movie franchise is at last coming to an end, or rather its original ennealogy is (it opens Dec. 19, as anyone who actually cares already knows). Though Mel Brooks made an entire movie to spoof the first […]

New York City 1, Amazon 0

Filed in National by on December 9, 2019 13 Comments

Remember back when states and cities were prostrating themselves before Amazon in hopes of landing a new headquarters? Lots of people, not all of them Republicans, castigated Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other anti-corporatists for passing on the promise of jobs in exchange for multi-billions in tax breaks. Those who were against the giveaway cited all sorts […]

Coons Spouts More Absurd Nonsense About Biden & Revisits Promise to Give McConnell Veto Power if Dems Win

Coons Spouts More Absurd Nonsense About Biden & Revisits Promise to Give McConnell Veto Power if Dems Win

Campaigning for Biden in Las Vegas, Coons said that Republican Senators will magically decide to work with a Biden admistration, because…reasons.

One of Biden’s key talking points centers on his claim of being able to work with Republicans to pass legislation.

Coons said Biden possesses the “greatest reserve of goodwill in the Senate.” Even if the Democrats flip the Senate, he said, it would almost certainly be a weak majority that would still require some level of compromise with Republicans.

Vulnerable Democratic incumbents and promising challengers in the Senate are also secretly hoping for a Biden nomination, Coons said, as they believe he would be the best candidate to lift others on the 2020 ticket.

There Are Now 18 House Republicans Retiring. What Does This Mean For Delaware?

There Are Now 18 House Republicans Retiring. What Does This Mean For Delaware?

Since the debacle of 2016, voters have taken every opportunity to vote against Trump and Trump enabling Republicans in state and local elections.  The DEGOP has done nothing to distance itself from Trump, so it is entirely reasonable to expect another Blue Wave in Delaware.

And yet, there are only two probably Republican quitters in Delaware.  Part of this is because the DEGOP has already been decimated at the polls, but part of it is because Delcollo and Hensley are Teflon. The smear “he is a Republican” doesn’t really seem to stick to them.

Probable DEGOP Quitters:

Cathy Cloutier is still leading the pack.  The district has shifted under her feet and her brand of 1990’s style Michael Castle republicanism doesn’t make very much sense anymore.

Mike Ramone is the next most likely to find a sudden desire to spend more time with his family.  He knows that he caught a break last time out.

Should be DEGOP Quitters who aren’t

If the world made sense, Anthony Delcollo would quit.  If Dems field a good candidate he may consider it given the composition of the district.

Similarly, Kevin Hensley should be in trouble but isn’t.

Only socialism can save capitalism. I hate to break this news to socialist and capitalist alike. Anyway, listen and give yourself the gift of a patronage this year. It is less than you spend on automated red light tickets. Also take the sidebar poll today. ->

“Fightin’ Joe” getting raves. I say he didn’t go far enough. Calling a Fox News viewer a fat idiot is a good start though.

When your neighborhood is being gentrified by bears, you know the forces of gentrification are getting serious.

Trump’s brain worms are winning

A group of mental health professionals led by a trio of pre-eminent psychiatrists is urging the House Judiciary Committee to consider Donald Trump’s “dangerous” mental state arising from his “brittle sense of self-worth” as part of its inquiry into whether to approve articles of impeachment against him. “We are speaking out at this time because […]

Feeling the heat of a primary challenge, Coons (at long last) sees Trump’s abuse of power

Filed in Coons, National by on December 4, 2019 2 Comments

There is no way in hell Coons releases this about-face statement without being pushed by Scarane.

Coons, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released a statement Dec. 3 on the release of the House Intelligence Committee report on the impeachment inquiry.

“During two weeks of testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, career diplomats, decorated veterans and President Trump’s own appointees all presented a consistent, straightforward set of facts: the president clearly, intentionally abused his power to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political opponent — and he used foreign aid money as a bribe to do it,” said Coons.

“The hearings made clear that this wasn’t ‘just a phone call,’” said Coons. “It was an organized, coordinated campaign by the president and his inner circle to pressure Ukraine into helping him win reelection, all while undermining U.S. national security in the process.”

“The question now is how Congress will respond,” said Coons. “This isn’t business as usual, and it is profoundly dangerous for any of us to pretend otherwise. It is my hope that my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in the Senate will take a moment and think about what role they want to play at this moment in our country’s history. I hope the Senate will put fidelity to the country and the Constitution over loyalty to the president, consider the facts, and treat this inquiry with the seriousness it deserves.”

This is a remarkable statement from the GOP’s favorite Democrat. He doesn’t use the words “bipartisan” or “bipartisanship” at all and only mentions “colleagues from both sides of the aisle” in the second to last sentence.

Coons parrots GOP talking points to undermine Impeachment

Coons parrots GOP talking points to undermine Impeachment

Coons spends so much time trying to curry favor with Republicans that it is no wonder he adopted GOP talking points to try and undermine impeachment efforts in advance of Trump’s trial in the Senate.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) told reporters this week that he doesn’t believe the Senate will convict President Donald Trump if impeachment moves to the upper Congressional chamber.

“From what I’ve heard publicly and privately, I don’t think there will be the votes to remove him if this does come to an impeachment trial in the Senate,” he told CNN

This “I don’t think there will be the votes to remove him” is nearly a verbatim version of what Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) has been saying with regard to impeachment. In Cornyn’s case it is pure tribalism. For Coons adopting GOP talking points is part of a pattern of giving ground in return for nothing. And sure, it might be hard to find GOPers willing to admit the truth about Trump, what is the point of not even trying? What’s the point of quitting the race befor the starter’s pistol even fires?

Isn’t Coons the bi-partisan savior, who will use all the bi-partisan chits he has amassed to get those votes? If not, what has been the point of amassing such a huge pile of chit?

Biden to Tour Iowa on Malarkey-Free Bus

No, that’s not a fake photo. Joe Biden is setting off on an 8-day bus tour of Iowa, and he’s doing it in a bus that’s either the cat’s pajamas or the bee’s knees, depending on which segment of his target audience you’re in. The unveiling of this gas guzzler was met with howls of […]
