Mike Castle made many mistakes in his years of service. His biggest mistake was not standing up to his own party and allowing it to demonize good ideas. One example: GOP voters in the primary cited "cap & trade" as one of their top issues.

Gingrich, who is backing Republican Christine O'Donnell in the race, told those in attendance that Coons had "dramatically lowered" the county's bond rating. But New Castle County government has held on to a triple-A bond rating for years, the highest a government agency can receive. O'Donnell, also in attendance at the conference, refused to correct Gingrich, despite her hard stance against lying.
