Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 7, 2020 5 Comments

The No. 1 song in the nation the day of the Pearl Harbor attack was also the first one ever awarded a gold record. Glenn Miller’s swing rendition of the song, which debuted in that year’s movie “Sun Valley Serenade,” hit No. 1 on Dec. 7, 1941, and stayed there (with a one-week break) until […]

Delaware Day And Pearl Harbor Day.  Coincidence? Your thoughts. Biden Names Cali AG Xavier Becerra To Lead HHS.  I’m surprised.  Thought he might be nominated for AG.  Well, let’s see.  He has publicly supported single-payer.  He has effectively litigated on behalf of expanded access to health care.  Let’s not forget the political factors at play:  […]

Song of the Day 12/6: Mountain, “Nantucket Sleighride (To Owen Coffin)”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 6, 2020 7 Comments

Long Island guitarist Leslie West was so impressed by Cream that he formed a band with Felix Pappalardi, who had produced the “Disraeli Gears” and “Wheels of Fire” LPs, on bass, to play the same kind of blues-soaked hard rock. Though they’re not much remembered today, Mountain was one of the bands that helped transform […]

Song of the Day 12/4: Amy Winehouse and Paul Weller, “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 4, 2020 0 Comments

It’s been nearly a decade since Amy Winehouse died and she still hasn’t been replaced. In 2006, when she was on top of the world after the release of her second album, “Back to Black,” she teamed up with British blue-eyed soul icon Paul Weller on Jools Holland’s annual New Year’s Eve Hootenanny for this […]

If Trump wants to hurt Barr he shouldn’t fire him

Trump’s brain is such a worm-eaten mess, he doesn’t see that Barr is playing him like a fiddle. I actually hope (Barr firing) doesn’t happen because, as Paul said earlier this week, it seems pretty clear that the wily old Phalangist is angling to get back in the good graces of as much as the […]

Yet Another Sallies’ Priest Busted.  At what point do we look at this as not a series of isolated incidents, but view the school that they all have in common as a cesspool of pedophilia? I mean, this guy was the school principal, for, um, Christ’s sake. Louie Freeh’s law firm has rushed in to whitewash this […]

I’m not ready for a little Christmas

Little Thanksgiving was strange but doable.  Little Christmas is going to be rough.  I’ve adopted the 100% secular American Christmas and so much has to do with family and friends.   Scaling that all the way down to the four people in our nuclear family bubble is going to suck.  I understand the need for little Christmas, but I’m not emotionally ready for it.
