Did Coons Signal a Change in Biden’s Approach to Court Expansion?
Not sure if Coons is going rogue here, or he is signaling a change in the Biden campaign. either way, this is going to come up in the “debate” on Thursday, so I hope Biden has a good response locked down.
The first question Tapper asked Coons was whether he would vote to “expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court,” to which Coons said he was in line with Joe Biden’s position that this nomination process was bad all across the board, and that Amy Coney Barrett was unqualified “because of her extreme judicial philosophy.” He made sure to specify that this move on the part of Republicans was an attempt to destroy millions of Americans healthcare coverage in the middle of a pandemic.
Coons finished by saying he was ready along with the Democratic Party to help re-balance the “federal judiciary” however that may look over the next few weeks. Jake Tapper then asked what passes for a gotcha question against Democratic officials these days in traditional media minds, asking “So you are open to expanding the court?”
“Yes.”
That’s big. When traditionalist Democrats like Coons are open to expanding the court, and publicly saying as much just weeks before election, that means the political will is clearly there to make that happen. It also means that Sen. Coons’ internal polling is showing that the will of the people is there as well.
America’s TRUE unemployment rate vs the OFFICIAL unemployment rate
This is eye opening: A person who is looking for a full-time job that pays a living wage — but who can’t find one — is unemployed. If you accept that definition, the true unemployment rate in the U.S. is a stunning 26.1%, according to an important new dataset shared exclusively with “Axios on HBO.” […]
Song of the Day 10/18: The Avett Brothers, “Early in the Morning”
HBO is running a “West Wing” reunion show with an interesting twist — the cast assembles for a stage reading of a highly-regarded episode that originally aired in February 2002. The actors slipped into their old roles easily, but IMO the most interesting part was the way director Thomas Schlamme adapted the TV script for […]

Song of the Day 10/16: Poco, “A Good Feelin’ to Know”
Buffalo Springfield had three guitarists who were also singers and songwriters. Stephen Stills and Neil Young found greater fame after the group disbanded, but Richie Furay, who had the best voice of the three, never managed to break through to success or fame. He and Jim Messina, Buffalo Springfield’s replacement bassist and frequent producer, hooked […]

Delaware’s Most (Only) Intriguing Races Of 2020: Part 2
In general, the thread for most of these races will be the same: Can an R incumbent overcome both registration and turnout disadvantages with Biden at the top of the ticket and Trump-based hatred motivating much of the electorate? Song of the Day 10/15: Alison Krauss, “When You Say Nothing at All”
Here’s the perfect song for Amy Coney Barrett, who spent hours this week saying nothing at all. Alison Krauss recorded it for a 1994 tribute album to Keith Whitley, who had a No. 1 country hit with it in 1988, the year before he died. Krauss’ version was released as a single only after radio […]

Job #1 for conservative justices is preserving the right’s minority rule
Tearing down “Obamacare” and consigning “Roe v Wade” to the trash bin of history are side shows. The real goal of the conservative politicians added to the court is to lock in white minority rule by stripping away voting rights from blacks and browns.
