Take Back Your Time Day

Filed in Uncategorized by on November 1, 2007

Those of you that know me, know that I have an addiction. I am addicted to travel. I am not in treatment and I’m not sure if I want your help with the monkey on my back.

One of the podcasts that I listen to regularly is from Rick Steves, who hosts a public television travel show. On a recent podcast, he has an interview with John de Graaf about Take Back Your Time Day. Take Back Your Time Day was last week on October 24th and is 9 weeks before the end of the calendar year. That 9 weeks (350 hours) is equivalent to the amount of work time that Americans put in over and above our Western European peers.

The site details the effect that this has on health, quality of life and the environment. Check it out when you get a chance. I know that I could use another 9 weeks of vacation… 🙂

  1. disbelief says:

Me and a buddy, in our youth, did the backpacker thing several times, or ‘how to tour Myanmar on less than 2 groats a day and not get harrassed by the junta’. Definitely gives one perspective about how good we got it here. The absolute worst was India. Only went there once. Might sound callous, but I couldn’t handle it.

The high point was my surprise at how hot Eastern European chicks are. I figured they’d all be soviet tanks wearing babushkas.
