Is WILM Radio Getting Rush For Free?

Filed in National by on April 14, 2009

It is a tidy little racket El Rushbo has worked out.

Rush gets hundreds of small and medium market stations, the stations get to cut decent American jobs through outsourcing, and the Gold Bond Medicated Powder flies off the shelves.

You’ve heard of wingnut welfare – this is wingnut community access programming on a grand scale.

  1. Truth Teller says:

The answer to this question is yes he has to give the 3 hours away for nothing it also allows WILM and other small radio stations to cut staff and sneak in their local commercials along with national ads.

Just goes to show how smart these small stations are for no one it their right mind would pay for this right wing garbage

  2. Unstable Isotope says:

It sounds like a win-win for Rush. He gets to offer up his ratings as proof as to why he should get to charge so much for commercials.

I guess I would see the downside for rightwing radio is that it doesn’t allow much local talent to develop although it seems like wingnut radio wannabes are a dime a dozen. What would happen if Rush retired? Would Glen Beck just slip neatly into Rush’s place or is Rush unique enough that it would cause a vacuum?

  3. You’re just upset Air America didn’t follow the same model.

Probably the same free Limbaugh with WGMD here in Sussex. In addition to Limbaugh, we get blessed with Savage, Ingraham, and Bruce, not to mention locals Bill Colley and Bill Rogers — just awful, truly terrible! Locals Jared Morris and the new Jeff Gartman are the exceptions.

Fortunately, we have NPR, WDSL (90.7) out of Salisbury, which saves the day every day!

Too bad we don’t have Delaware Talk Radio, which had some really talented and informative hosts, not to forget some of the DLs, and other locals like Smitty, and Alan Muller, and Liz, and lots of local politicos too. Great stuff!
