While I realize Republicans are criticizing the speech the one hour speech because he used a teleprompter, there is no denying the fact that the truth is powerful medicine.

I’m proud as hell to have Barack Hussein Obama represent America on the world stage.

    Totally awesome speech. Reality resonates.

  3. Perry says:

I’m glad to see an American President push back at Israeli extremism, for a change.

He balanced this with a push back at Palestinian extremism (Hamas) as well.

This is setting the stage for movement toward a Middle East resolution.

His was a great speech, showing his qualifications to be a global influence for peace.

He even acknowledged our overthrow of an elected Iranian leader in the late ’50’s. Wow!

But we need to see actions following up on the rhetoric, with America setting the examples with our own behavior.

For one, we cannot go on killing civilians with out-of-control drones in Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we can’t conspire with Pakistan to create collateral damage, 2.5 million refugees in the Swat Valley vicinity, because we’re after Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. The end should never justify the means to achieve it, unless to preserve life in defense of direct attack. Let us finally make peace with the Taliban, like we did with the Sunni insurgents in Iraq.

The point: The actions which follow Obama’s rhetoric are critical to make real progress, otherwise it is all empty. Moreover, he will need alliances, domestic and foreign, to move forward effectively. It is going to be real tough, given the history that he has inherited.

He said virtually the same things that Bush has said over the years (along with emphasizing his ‘hide-it-from-America’ middle name).

In other news, John McCain has reported that the Straight Talk Express has been highjacked to Cairo.
