The Republican’s Cunning Two Pronged Election Strategy

Filed in National by on May 24, 2011

Part A
1) Cut Medicare and Medicaid
2) Blame Democrats for the cuts

Part B
1) Hold the Debt ceiling vote hostage to reckless ideological craziness.
2) Blame Democrats for the debt ceiling crisis and that economic calamity that may result from the GOP’s strategy.

The worst thing about the strategy is that Democrats are stupid enough to let them get away with it.

  1. Why wouldn’t they do this? It worked for them in 2010.

  2. skippertee says:

And the dopey Dems will continue to believe the voters knows the real score and try to act like grown ups when what they TRULY need to do is POUND their MESSAGE into the idiot electorate multiple times daily!

  3. anon says:

The only way Dems can screw this up is to actually cut Medicare via some compromise in the name of bipartisanship, or to save the hostages, whatever – which is an uncomfortable possibility.

Also, Dems may have peaked too soon with the Medicare thing. Republicans and their bought media will be working day and night to regroup and get their mojo back.

I know old people. Here is how the conversation will go by 2012:

GEEZER #1: “You know, they’re trying to take away our Medicare.”

    GEEZER #2: “Yes, I know. That Obama…”

GEEZER #1: “No, I think it’s the Republicans.”

GEEZER #2: “Well, I heard both of them were doing it.”

GEEZER #1: “I guess you’re right. We’ll just have to throw all the rascals out.”

GEEZER #2: “That’s right. I’m tired of all this partisan bickering.”

    Hey anon,

You gotta do a better job talking to the old people you know. The old people I know would never have that conversation.

  6. anon says:

Good point. The people I know in their 80s are all FDR Democrats, and they are under no illusions about which party is on their side. Because FDR employed their parents and put food in their bellies.

I love doing GOTV phoning when I reach someone in their 80s and they proudly tell me they already voted the straight Dem ticket bright and early.

But that was a real conversation, pretty much, that I have heard more than once from other seniors.

  7. Jason330 says:

The imagined conversation is pretty much what the Republicans shoot for. The GOP, with the lazy media flying wingman, has gotten pretty good at that. Of course the bad Dems help by muddying the waters.

Unfortunately by 2012, Geezer #1 and #2 might represent the reality-based community.
