The One Honest Republican – Donald Trump

Filed in National by on July 27, 2011

Except for Barack Obama, there is nobody left in the country who thinks that the Republicans are negotiating in good faith. Everyone knows that the Republicans are simply out to create mayhem in the hope that Obama gets left holding the bag when the economy progresses from gutter to cliff, to chasm. Everyone knows it, but nobody will say it – nobody that is except for Donald Trump.

On Monday, Donald Trump urged Republicans to reject any deal with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and let the country risk default in order to prevent President Barack Obama from being reelected.

“Frankly the Republicans would be crazy unless they get 100 percent of the deal that they want right now to make any deal,” Trump said on “Fox and Friends” Monday. “If this happens, for instance if this stuff is going on prior to an election, he can’t get reelected. He possibly can’t get elected anyway. … The fact is, unless the Republicans get 100% of what they want… then they should not make a deal other than a minor extension which would take you before the election which would ensure Obama doesn’t get elected, ”

A brilliant plan. All the more brilliant because the Republicans are hiding it in plain sight. But what if people don’t blame the President? Trump has thought of that. To put it simply; Americans are stupid and have short memories.

Host Brian Kilmead pointed out that Americans currently blame Republicans more than Obama for the debt ceiling crisis, but Trump responded that, in the long run, the blame will fall on Obama, not Republicans.

“I don’t care about polls,” Trump said. “When it comes time to default, they’re not going to remember any of the Republicans’ names. They are going to remember in history books one name, and that’s Obama.”

You can’t argue with that logic.

That’s what Trump is hoping anyway. And he’s taking yet another opportunity for free press. And people actually feed on it. He’s a tarnished brand, a shameless shill, and a fraud as far as I’m concerned; having taken his casino business into bankruptcy not once, not twice, but three times and issuing stock in a public offering in the interim that he knew would end up worthless when those double digit junk bond chickens finally came home to roost for good. And no, I didn’t get burned on that one.

I guess being a tarnished brand, a shameless shill, and a fraud gives him the freedom to tell the truth about the GOP’s plan.

It gives him the freedom to put the Trump bullshit spin on the debt negotiation politics, which he knows nothing more about than you and I. Outside of building planning&zoning and casino politics, he’s pretty much a zero as far as politics goes. But he’ll throw his hat halfway into the ring for a Presidential run if he can get some free press out of it.
