On this platform, DL is closing in on its 10 millionth view. And many of them were not me re-reading my own stuff and giggling my ass off.

Anyhoo… I feel like the 10 millionth viewer should get something. A case of car wax or some such other old-timey consolation prize.

You’d have gotten there sooner if you hadn’t blown it and pushed the good writers onto a more popular blog.

    • Alby says:

The writers you refer to left because they couldn’t stand criticism. Having fellow progressives point out that they were wrong about Hillary Clinton is what “pushed” them over to a blog that I doubt you can prove is “more popular.”

[N.B. Alby had his 1993 essay on the Claymont Xmas weed in today’s NJ print edition. Special for Xmas Eve. By popular demand, it said.]

    • Alby says:

In my defense, it was an assignment from an editor, who told me he wanted a child’s fable about the weed for the next day’s paper, to run with a story about the armed guard he hired to stand over what IIRC was the seventh tree to decorate the spot; I forget whether that counted the original weed.

I thought it was rather telling that he had to hire an armed guard, but he thought that was too cynical for Christmas. To quote the old Irish folk song, such a custom as that he could find any day.
