Brady Announces He Won’t Run Again…

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on July 26, 2021

…according to Matt Bittle, whose Twitter feed is alive and better than ever, and according to sharp-eyed DL commenter Harold.  Here is what Brady wrote on his Facebook page:

However, my recent actions – using a deeply offensive anti-Asian slur and attempting to make a crass joke about human trafficking – make it more difficult to effectively provide the kind of representation all residents of the 4th District expect and deserve. All residents should have elected officials who serve and treat others with dignity and respect, whether it’s in public forums or in private communications.

There can be no excuse for my actions, and after careful reflection these past several days, I have decided that I will not seek re-election when my term ends. I cannot in good conscience ask the voters to put their faith in me again after I betrayed theirs. I can only humbly and unequivocally apologize again for my actions, for which I am solely responsible.

This clearly is not good enough.  He’s admitted that he can’t effectively represent the district any longer.  He has by his own admission denigrated every woman and every Asian American in his district.  In his own words (well, Drew Volturo’s approximation of his own words), he is no longer representing his district.  So why should he hang around as an admittedly ineffective representative for the next 15 months?

I think this is a (doomed) attempt by the Kop Kabal to keep Brady’s karkass in Dover until they can redraw the lines and try to find some other way to retain power.

BTW, does this mean that he no longer has to undergo ‘sensitivity’ training? (He says he will.)  Where was he gonna undergo it? At a nail salon?

Once again, the ethical bankruptcy of the House Democratic leadership is right there for all to see.

If someone can find out where he’s actually living now, I am all in on showing up to picket. Failing that, we can always chant Gerrr-Ald, Gerrr-Ald, outside the Stapler Club.  He. Must. Resign.

He belongs to the Stapler AA? I used to live three doors away. Drunks falling over trash cans at 3 a.m. was an at-least-weekly occurrence.

But I thought you said it would be better, from a progressive standpoint, to let him serve out his term and let primary voters choose his successor.

    • I still feel that way. But that doesn’t change the fact that he has blown up any ability to do his job.

In other words, I think he must resign b/c it is the right and essential thing for him to do, not b/c it isn’t in my mind the progressively expedient way for him to go out.

Plus, if the committee chooses someone who is less than optimal from the progressive perspective, that person will no doubt face a serious challenger next year.

Hopefully this a case of Pete being too clever by half.

        • Herein is the statement from ‘leadership’, where they imply, but don’t say, that they would’ve preferred if Brady had resigned:

“”We want to be clear about something we have heard from residents this past week: As a duly elected official, only Rep. Brady can make a decision about his political future. House leadership cannot unilaterally take action. We can and did provide guidance, but the decision ultimately was his.”

  3. Alby says:

I dunno, he seems to be properly mortified by it all, even if it’s only because he got caught. This is a step beyond how several other elected officials over the years have responded to getting caught in shameful behavior.

Has Darius Brown ever apologized for anything he’s done?

    • Point well-taken. Although–didn’t John Atkins resign–twice? Or did he only resign once and then retire once?

Which reminds me–the R’s essentially forced Atkins out. Popgun Pete embraced the loose cannon, and resurrected him as a D. So please, Pete ‘n Val, spare us the ‘our hands are tied’ bleatings.

      • Jason330 says:

Atkins resigned as a Republican in 2007, reelected as a Democrat in 2008 reelected as a Dem in 2012 lost to Richard Collins in 2014.

Fuck you very much, Bob Gilligan.

      • Alby says:

I don’t recall Atkins offering apologies for any of his myriad misdeeds, or if he did they were of the Marjorie Taylor Greene-at-the-Holocaust Museum variety.

Vance Phillips never apologized for his sexual assaults on an 18-year-old. Andrea Bennett hasn’t apologized for whatever she was picked up for (even Major League Baseball doesn’t require a conviction to dole out punishment). And so on. You can probably think of other examples as well.

        • Well, Brady’s was a shotgun apology if ever there was one. That statement wasn’t (couldn’t, really) have been written by him.

Having said that, Darius, Bennett, and Smyk should all be gone.

Brown is the only one to have been disciplined, by losing his committee chairmanship.

Don’t look for me to let up on them. Or on Brady, who should resign.

          • Alby says:

Too many syllables to be authentic?

            • Too many syllables, but the giveaway is proper sentence structure. Brady has never spoken in sentences. I know, I worked directly with him for two years.

He doesn’t speak English, he speaks ‘garbledygook’.

  4. Turns out Pete & Val’s hands AREN’T tied. From the Delaware State News:

“According to The Associated Press, Rep. Schwartzkopf, Rep. Longhurst and Rep. Mitchell are members of the House Ethics Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Longhurst and includes Republican Minority Leader Danny Short of Seaford and Minority Whip Tim Dukes of Laurel. House rules authorize the committee to investigate complaints that a lawmaker has violated the rules of legislative conduct.

Among the rules of legislative conduct: “A member shall not engage in conduct which the House determines (i) brings the House into disrepute or (ii) reflects adversely on the member’s fitness to hold legislative office.”

Committee rules state that any House member, including any member of the committee, can file a complaint. If a majority of the committee decides that the complaint has been proven, the committee can then, again by majority vote, recommend that the House take “appropriate action,” up to and including expulsion of the offending lawmaker.”

I believe that this is exactly what happened to John Atkins, who was expelled when he was still an R and the R’s controlled the House.

The Kop Kabal telling an untruth. Who would’a thunk it?
